ChristusG
I just purchase some organic ground hamburger meat today. I opened the package to cook it and the inside of the hamburger meat is already brown, as opposed to the outside which is still bright red. Is it okay or is it old? It's organic, that means it probably hasn't been colored as have a lot of commercial meats. The inside of the meat gets less oxygen, that means it will be less red. http://www.fsis.usda.gov/PDF/Color_of_Meat_and_Poultry.pdf

They don't colour the meat here in Australia. just chop it straight off the animal and put it in the display window. The butcher is behind the glass display counter, and you can see him chopping up the meat.
silvermine
Yep, they often add extra stuff to make it redder. :P As long as it doesn't smell "off" it should be just fine.
