SilverMoon
If you'd decided it was time for a microscope, and had an $80 holiday check from grandparents to spend, what would be at the top of your list? :001_smile: (If needed we'd totally contribute to that check to round out a nice family gift.) Capt_Uhura
It depends on what you want to use the microscope for. what do you want to look at? What ages are the kids who will be using it? Capt_Uhura

G5052
You're not going to get much of a microscope for $80. You want something with decent optics that is going to be useful for a while. For a bit more I'd go with this: http://www.magiscope.com/model70.htm (Rainbow Resource has them for slightly less and you can get free shipping for an order of $150 or more) -- I'd plan to buy the additional lenses at some point or http://www.hometrainingtools.com/kids-microscope/p/MI-1000STD/ We have a basic binocular microscope that would have been about $60 that I got for $20 with a case that I'd love to upgrade. Love ours, easy to use, portable. Many families here have bought the Brock. The other popular one is Sonlight's.
ElizabethB
Is the magiscope 4 year old boy proof or should I wait a year or two? (He's a good boy overall, but he is 4...)
