Jeannie in NJ
my dd, 9th grade, came home from school today and said students are saying that their parents are refusing to let them get the vaccine at school because they are saying that it causes muscle spasms. I told dd that I have not heard this and that I am hearing that the vaccine is hopefully as safe as the seasonal flu vaccine which dd has always gotten. Anyway, dd is now very worried about getting the vaccine. Do you have any idea where all these other parents are getting the impression that the vaccine causes muscle spasms? I don't want dd to be scared to get the vaccine. (I had already decided that my dc and I will get the vaccine when it is available to us). Devotional Soul
Sorry, I'm not who you're asking for, but I can explain where people are getting the idea about muscle spasms. That beautiful girl...:(...breaks my heart. You can search the CDC vaers website's records for dystonia (the state of abnormal muscle tone resulting in muscular spasm and abnormal posture, typically due to neurological disease or a side effect of drug therapy.) http://wonder.cdc.gov/vaers.html Edited November 5, 2009 by Devotional Soul
Tree House Academy
Sorry, I'm not who you're asking for, but I can explain where people are getting the idea about muscle spasms, or Dystonia: A state of abnormal muscle tone resulting in muscular spasm and abnormal posture, typically due to neurological disease or a side effect of drug therapy. The CDC website records 9 reports of dystonia, 4 from the vax, 5 from the flumist. http://wonder.cdc.gov/vaers.html Select Dystonia in the symptoms box Select Season Flu and FluMist in the Vaccine Products box. Select ALL States in the States/Territory box. Then submit. That beautiful girl...:(...breaks my heart. The cheerleader had dystonia from the SEASONAL flu shot, though - not H1N1. She got the shot in a grocery store on Aug 23rd - H1N1 vaccine wasn't available yet. BUT...OMG! They actually said that girl's dystonia was psychosematic! I'd be freaking LIVID! WHAT????? HOWEVER: If you go to the H1N1 Vaccines in that CDC VAERS link, open them up and select them all, there are 687 adverse events reported so far depending on how you search. MOST are not serious...things like "after the shot, my arm got red." and such silliness. However, at least 3-4 resulted in death and there were 6 or so that were life threatening. hornblower
Devotional Soul - I cannot disagree with you more. Poison????:001_huh: And for the woman suffering from dystonia - I'll give you the family of perfectly healthy 13 yo hockey player who died of a preventable disease - influenza A/H1N1 because the vaccine had not been rolled out yet. http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/posted/archive/2009/11/02/funeral-today-for-swine-flu-victim-evan-frustaglio-13.aspx Evan's father has been urging others to get vaccinated to prevent such pointless deaths. And I can also give you over 200 pediatric deaths in the USA for the flu already - these kids died of a preventable disease. And the Swedish cases which you mentioned in your post before you edited it have not been proven. In fact the health authorities in Sweden say there is no link. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=sv&u=http://www.lakemedelsverket.se/malgrupp/Allmanhet/&ei=OEHlSpu4OI--mQPFzL2iCw&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CBYQ7gEwAw&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsite:http://www.lakemedelsverket.se%2Bh1n1%2Bokt%26hl%3Den%26ie%3DUTF-8 The hundreds of thousands of doctors and chemists and pharmacologists and epidemiolgists are not in a conspiracy to poison you. They're trying to save as many as they can. Vaccination remains our best tool to save lives.
