mamapjama
I haven't had ds in for a blood test to check his vit. d levels, but I would like to give him a suppliment esp. as flu season draws closer. Anyone have a good starting amount for a child?
Pamela H in Texas
I think I'd do the 400 IU every other day unless I spoke to a doc about it. Make sure he's out midday also. And I'd skip the milk.
Greta
If you're using cod liver oil (which I'd recommend because it has many other benefits as well), there are some guidelines here: http://www.siteground217.com/~westonap/cod-liver-oil/238#clarify

Quiver0f10
I am giving my 6.5 yo 1000 IU a day.
sbgrace
Up to 2000 IU per day of D3 is the upper tolerable/safe limit for kids. That's what I give mine and I do know their levels (they are good). If adult supplements and the corrlation to levels are any indicator most kids need more than 400 IU per day. I would do between 1000 and 2000.
HappyGrace
I do 1200 iu per day for 6.5 and 9.5 yr old dc. But they drink raw milk, so it's not D-enriched. If they had that, I'd maybe go with 1,000 IU.
