New to WTM and need help with Logic Please!

We have joined a co-op this year that meets once a week. I have signed her up for Logic using the book Art of Argument. She has not gone through any of the Critical Thinking Press books that are mentioned in TWTM.

 

After her first day, she came home and said she felt totally lost.

 

Should I back up and go through some other books prior to her using this book? Or, have her tough it out and get used to the language?

I would recommend looking at critical thinking book 1. The art of Argument is a really good review of previously learned concepts.

If the Art of Argument is a good review, do you mean a good review of concepts contained in the Critical Thinking books? So, maybe she could tough it out and be ok?

 

When I went to the "starting in the middle" section of TWTM, it says, "Always begin the Canon Press logic program with the first book. With an older student (grade 10 or above) you can skip Critical Thinking Press's warm-up books and go straight to Traditional Logic or The Art of Argument."

 

What is the Canon Press logic program?

 

I think the "older" student mentioned above is what is making me think I should hold off.

I just realized that you said 'art of argument. ' I am not familiar with this book. I was thinking you were referring to 'A rulebook for Argument by Anthony Weston.

Here's the Canon Press book: Introductory Logic[/i]. If you're not of the Reformed flavor of Christianity, you may not find this text appropriate.
