Fallen Baby Bird

Recommended Posts

Today we found a baby bird - a new baby bird - on the ground. We searched for the nest to put it back into, but couldn't find one in the trees where we found it.

We placed it into a nest that we noticed birds making a few weeks ago. It had two blue eggs in it. We placed it right next to it.

We know that the bird did come by and the baby bird did look a little bit better - but we were wondering if the new bird would take care of it as if it were it's own.....and will the other two eggs be okay?

Thanks.

Deb

We found baby bird the other day and it looked almost grown. There was no nest near by, but he could hop, so he could have been from anywhere nearby. We put him in a bush and the mom came by (obvious by the way they were calling out to each other) and the mom purposefully pushed him off the branch. We repositioned him, made a little nest like cluster of grasses so he wouldn't have perch, and he died later that day. We are guessing there was something wrong with him, and that is why the mom cast him out. Still, sad to see up close though.

I think you are supposed to leave them where they are so that momma bird can find them. We found a little baby bird trapped in a water meter once but it had been placed there by a kid who removed it from its nest but wouldn't identify the location. We wound up taking it to the wildlife rehabilitation center.

You can put them back into their nests. The whole, smell of humans thing is a myth (thank you Cub Scout camp, lol).

I would say the mother bird will take care of it, isn't that how some birds are raised? Their parents lay eggs in another bird's nest and that bird raises them.
