LadyAberlin
Has anyone read these? I was wondering if these would be an appropriate gift for my math students that are in going into 3rd and 6th. They are moving to canada. They are boys and I thought it might appeal to them. Is there anything horribly inappropriate in them?
LoriM
Oh, dear. Now I want a copy of each and every one. Sigh.
KinderSafari
My son, 8th grade, read them FOR FUN this year. Twice. I read one page and fell asleep. I don't think I could stay awake for any math book. So I'm a bad person to review. :)
nmoira
DD the Elder loves these, and thinks they would be a great gift. The only warning I'd give (and it's nothing major) is that some of the terminology is different in the UK relative to North America, most noticeably the way millions, billion, etc. are handled. In the US one billion is 10^9 and in the UK it's 10^12 (i.e. a million millions, and 10^ 6 is a thousand million). It's amusing having DD correct me when using seconds and minutes with angles... "no mom, thats ARCminutes!" (emphasis hers), and that's the way she insists on writing it. :D
Cindyg
My son LOVES this series. I started giving him the books when he was in the third grade. He's now finishing the 5th grade. Still loves them.
LadyAberlin
So which one would you suggest to give to the third grader and which on e to the 6th grader? Thanks

radiobrain
If you are ordering from Ray at horrible books, I would suggest just getting a couple at first to see what you (and your kids) think. I would suggest for absolute starters... Murderous Maths (1) and The Essential Arithmetricks. For the older one i would say it depends... this is a really good place to see what many of the books are all about, they are reviewed by a kid. http://fun-books.com/books/murderous_maths.htm it might be better to order from there, even though the prices are a bit higher, due to shipping and/or availability. these books are great! LadyAberlin
Okay what company has the fastest shipping? I can't find a bookstore around here that sells them.
