TreasuresFromHeaven
I have a 4yr DS, 2yr DS and 7m DD. I would really like to get serious about homeschooling. Due to a single income, I have been doing alot of research to find stuff free online. But that can be overwhelming for me as I am a very organized, black and white thinker. I almost need something that will just tell me what to do rather than me piecing it all together at this point. Maybe I will feel more comfortable with that after I have a couple years under my belt. My 4yr DS has kinda been a hard one to figure out (but it could just be me). He doesn't really like to color, draw or write. He is very slow to process things and you can't push him in anyway. But once he sleeps on it, he usually has it with little practice. He will all of the sudden do something that we worked on months ago with no practice for months. He knows his numbers, letters and quite a few sounds. He has already started reading. I find he is very responsive to reading. He will sit for such a long time if you will read to him. So I think a reading base curriculum will work best for him. After all of that, I guess I am looking for suggestions on curriculum either free or very little cost. I have been looking at OFE and I think he may like that. I want something that is heavily bible based. Something that will help with character issues but if not, I can use stuff from CharacterJournal.com. For my 2yr DS, I was going to use LotW but just heard about a new one today called ABCJesusLovesMe.com. I know this is a little long winded but I would appreciate any help someone would like to offer. This sure can be overwhelming. Thank you! Elizabeth Conley
I fealt very overwhelmed when I started too. I went with canned curriculums, got annoyed with them and started to build my own after a while. Good news! I started when my kids were 11 and 8. You are so on top of this thing! Seriously, I just know things are going to go great. I don't have much experience with the pre-school kiddies, so I'll leave you to the experts. You're doing great, because you're already way ahead of the game.
2_girls_mommy
Did you see that LOTW has different levels? You could do the sound of the week or the K one with your 4 yr old. It does tell you what to do each week and day if you read all of the scheduling stuff. It is reading based and starts with a list of books and poetry and songs each week to find. My dd loved the book selections. But you do have to do a lot of work gathering materials and making flashcards and printouts etc. I have only used LOTW and haven't looked too hard at sound of the week. With LOTW for things like social studies, art, Bible, and P.E. it just gives you ideas of what to teach and you have to reserve a book on the topic at the library or search online for some info. I generally printed out the plans a week ahead of time and reserved the books for the next week at the library. I printed out any coloring sheets and poems that were online too. Then I 3 hole punched them and made my own lesson plan book. We didn't follow the plans exactly, but I got some good ideas.

Bird Girl
You may want to request a Sonlight catalog, and treat it as a library reading list. I agree that at the ages of your DC, you don't need to purchase anything. Just settle in to a habit of reading aloud several times a day, and let them continue as they are. Suzannah
There was another post recently about various free things online. If you do a forum search you should find it. Off the top of my head these two come to mind: worksheets-sign up for free membership and chose worksheets then funsheets to see all subjects with different themes for PK-3rd http://www.learningpage.com'>http://www.learningpage.com'>http://www.learningpage.com'>http://www.learningpage.com Ambleside Online--Charlotte Mason http://www.amblesideonline.org/ Blessings!
