hmschooling
From Kids of Courage (kids site off of Voice of the Martyrs). If you go to the site, click on downloads, give the little bit of info they ask for, you'll then be allowed to access incredible activity books with country facts, activities, real life stories, life in <country> stories, 30 day prayer calendar for this country, and much more! I am in awe of the content and I've only seen the one for China. There are currently 10 or 11 free country guides for China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Napal and several more. There are also guides for several other countries that can be purchased pre-printed. http://www.kidsofcourage.com

hmschooling
I think you could easily use them from elementary all the way up through middle school/jr. high quite easily. I also think you could make these 10 or 11 guides last a LONG time! I thought I'd use each for about 3 weeks to cover a years worth of study, until I realized there is NO way I could finish one in that short amount of time. If anyone decides to use these for sure, I'd love to know what other books you add to your study.
HappyGrace
I love these because they're meaty, yet simple for even young ones to understand-great for multilevel study!!!!!!!!!! I like that they contain map work too. You could look at My Father's World Exploring Countries and Cultures or WinterPromise Children around the World for add-on ideas-they have some GREAT books. Also there are some nice DK books; just be careful with the one-they have some pagan celebrations that we skip: http://www.amazon.com/Children-Just-Like-Anabel-Kindersley/dp/0789402017/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1245617137&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.com/Children-Just-Like-Me-Celebrations/dp/0789420279/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1245617137&sr=8-2 And Window on the World is our favorite mission focus book-you can find samples at CBD, I think: http://www.amazon.com/Window-World-pb-Spragget-Johnstone/dp/1932805915/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1245617234&sr=1-
