gwendolyn
My son has expressed an interest to learn French. He is 5 and would be starting Kindergarten in the fall. Any suggestions? Also, does anyone start Latin earlier that 3rd grade?
Aurelia
We haven't tried French, but maybe something like The Easy French? I think they have a junior version for younger kids. I'm planning to start Latin when Ariel is 6 with Song School Latin.

Also, if your dc watches videos sometimes, you can see if French is one of the languages you can watch it in (on the DVD menu, click Set Up or Languages. E.g., Disney's Little Einsteins are available in French as well.

amsunshine
For a 5 year old, I would recommend starting with the first two Bonjour Les Amis dvds and some fun french audiobooks such as the Berlitz Adventures with Nicholas series. We've used these, in addition to the Ecoutez, Parlez program. I believe, but I can't recall for certain, that the Easy French, Jr. is for slightly older children (maybe starting with 6 or 7?). It looks like a nice program, and we will be using that starting next year (when my dds are 7 and 8.5 yrs old). Then, we'll move on to First Start French. Just some suggestions to get you started! skaterbabs
Dot wants French too, she'll be 6 in October. There are TONS of Spanish materials available, French is a little harder to find.
KarenNC
We've just started using Powerspeak French with our almost 9 yo, but it wouldn't be a good fit unless the child was reading pretty well, IMO. It is a secular program. Have you tried something like Rosetta Stone which I don't believe uses written material until later on? My daughter adored the Little Bear dvds when she was younger. As they are done in Canada, they have French tracks available--might be a fun option.

Dot is currently watching Snow White in French. lol :D
kckamy
We started with Song School Latin in 2nd Grade and had a lot of fun. Song School was an easy way to learn 100+ words. In 3rd grade, we used Latin for Children A. Next year we will begin LFC B. We still remember the vocabulary and songs from Song School - they are short and have very catchy tunes.
