LG Gone Wild
Actually, he has the body of a 7yo. I have 500mg tablets. The dosage says one pill and I assuming that it is for an adult. Also, when do I give it?
BalanceSeeker
Are you sure it's 500 milligrams and not micrograms? That would be a lot of melatonin. I take 1/2 of a 3 mg tab. I find lower doses work better than higher for me (I've gone up to the 9 mg range without good results).
DarlaS
You mean 5 mg right? I have these in both 3 mg and 1 mg. 1 mg has been enough on the rare occasion I give it to my 12 yo (not a big guy--he's under 70 lbs.).
LG Gone Wild
I checked the bottle. It says micrograms. I took one myself just to see. I took one pill of 500 mcg and gave my son a fourth of that. We shall see.
gevs4him
Probably a dumb question, but why would you give this to a child?? Just wondering Thanks Lisa
Lovedtodeath
Hi Lisa! It is for regulating your sleep cycle, so if your child has been unable to get to sleep and wake up early enough, then it will help to sort that out. :) I also find that very small doses work for me, and I have given DD a tiny dose (like 1/8 of a 500 mcg pill) and it works well. It might depend on the person... I have heard that it is safe to give much more than that. There was a thread here about it, in fact. Lovedtodeath
Melatonin anyone? Here is the thread.
KS_
My 10yo and 8 yo both take the 500mcg tablets. I never tried halving the tablets, so don't know if a lower dosage would have worked for them, but the 500mcg seems to be enough. Ds has commented, though, that he has to have his room dark and be trying to fall asleep for it to work - if he stays up and plays or reads, it doesn't work.
