mooooom
Any high school courses out there for small engine repair? Our vet recommended taking one to my dd who wants to be a vet (for finger dexterity, he said) and I think the boys would get into it as well. I saw there were some 4H books can't really tell what they might include. I can find online courses for adults - I know some high schools offer courses like this, maybe there is some curriculum out there for someone who knows nothing about it, like me? Cindy in WA
Christian Light offers a course. Here's the link: http://www.clp.org/store/by_course/
Teresa in MO
My ds used Christian Lights. It was very good. It has a textbook, then light units you use with it. A good introductory course.
mooooom
Do you need "engines" in order to do this course? Is it "hands on" in some way?
Renee in NC
Actual engines would be better for any course that you take. My 11yo is doing the CLE course - I imagine you could do it without the hands-on projects, but I don't know how much would stick with the student that way. kiana
Can't see it doing much for finger dexterity without using the engines.
mooooom
what kind of engine would I need - is it something you buy, or do they take apart the lawnmower, or what?
Cornflower
I don't know if this will be what your looking for, but here is a link to a Auto upkeep curriculum. Scroll down the page, there is a homeschool version of this curric that they offer. Click on the book for a sample chapter and the table of contents. Renee in NC
what kind of engine would I need - is it something you buy, or do they take apart the lawnmower, or what? There are a couple different types of engines, but I would think your best bet is a two cycle (from a string trimmer or blower) and a regular lawn mower engine. Those two would give a good overview. My ds has several different motors. He is good at taking a couple of bad motors and making them good by scavenging parts. A decent set of tools would be a must as well.
