pooh bear
Has anyone used Teaching the Classics by IEW? I have no idea how to read a book for more than just the story. I don't pick up on the things/ideas that the author is writing about. I my post about writing in books, someone posted a link to IEW Windows to the World books. This looks OK, but then I saw Teaching the Classics. I think that this would be better for me, then I can teach my son what to look for. Is Teaching the Classics a good way to learn about literary analysis, or is there something else? Why is it the thought of teaching Math and English send me into a panic? Give me History and Geography any day.

Julie of KY
I think Teaching the Classics is great. It is geared to teach the teacher how to understand literary analysis and how to teach it, but students can watch it with you if you want. It has given me a framework of how to think about literary analysis and how to give building blocks to my kids. It's been well worth my time and money and it has a great resale value. melissa123
I agree with Julie. It has given me the confidence to discuss literature in a more meaningful way.
Peela
I think it is probably a good program if you are the sort of person who will put aside the time to sit down and watch lectures on your TV. I am not- I would rather read- and so this program sits on my shelf.
alegnab
...so this program sits on my shelf. You could still use the questions in the syllabus without watching the DVD.
