  1. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but it looks like a pretty amazing resource. I'll check it out later today. http://m.techcrunch.com/2013/08/02/developed-by-literacy-experts-learn-with-homer-launches-on-the-ipad-to-change-how-kids-learn-to-read/
  2. These are really great! Thanks for taking the time to share. I feel like I have some new ways of implementing and tracking now, as well.
  3. I'd love to hear the different things you use and how you give them out, and what they are tied to (i.e. chores, school, specific subjects.) Prizes? Money? Screen time? Special outings? I'm looking for some new ideas for this year. I know it depends quite a bit on the kid, too. If you are opposed to such things, no need to share that here.
  4. We got about 10 lessons in to WWS1 last year and it was a lot of drudgery for my daughter. I feel like WWS has a lot of great things about it, but I think it will be a chore all year and is likely to turn DD off of writing completely. What other options are there for 6th grade? I did pick up the Kilgallon (spelling?) paragraph book. I also have a retired middle school English teacher who Is willing to work with DD 2x/week. Please give me some suggestions! This child is very creative artistically, if that is of any help. Visually interesting curriculum would be a plus, but not required. Thanks!
  5. Thank you, Rose! I have a hard time finding what I want in the searching, so I appreciate the links! Off to read up. :-)
  6. We started this at the latter part of last school year (5th grade) and there is a lot I like about it. We had a bit of trouble making the time daily for the longer lessons, so I just wondered how others were using it and if you have any suggestions. My daughter gets a little bogged down with writing assignments and feeling overwhelmed.
  7. (Mn, I need to update my signature line! Twins are now 10.5 months!)
  8. I am looking for online resources for reading and writing practice for a 3rd grader and a 6th grader. Looking to cover things like reading comprehension and grammar. I'm not sure exactly what I need in the programs, but would love any suggestions/recommendations so I can have some to investigate. Thanks so much! Mindy
  9. My 10yo DD still has shared time with note names/placement. Any apps or online games that will help?
  10. I really want to incorporate more of the videos into my kids' school, but feel like I need a good jumping off place. We have 5th and 2nd grade and a preschooler. Would love anything you have found or compiled! Thanks! ETA: Also, has anyone found a current series/episode list?
  11. Thanks, all. These are great ideas! I've learned about some good stuff from your suggestions. Anyone else?
  12. I am looking for something for my 7.5 year old (2nd grade this fall). He is perhaps a bit behind when it comes to handwriting. Normally we just do it as part of our WWE work, but there will be a couple of months or more that I won't be able to keep up with those lessons when our twins arrive, so I want an independent workbook for him to practice in. I like the way the Memoria Press books look, but I don't really want so many Bible verses. Ideally, it would cost $15 or less. Suggestions?
  13. Yay! I'm excited to meet some new people. Thanks for hosting (and letting me know about the gathering, Veritaserum.)
  14. Well, when I am on top of things we used it at least weekly. When I'm not...not so often. :tongue_smilie:
  15. Ha ha, Rebecca, I think you are most likely correct. I will likely be laughing at my naivete! :tongue_smilie:
  16. Thanks for sharing these! I'm excited to look into them more.
  17. thanks for these! :001_smile::001_smile:
  18. I am expecting twins in September and am planning to take about 6 weeks "off" of doing very much, though my dd10 is pretty independent with her math (Teaching Textbooks) and I'll make time (or have DH help) with ds7's math. I'd like to have some good stuff they can do independently and still be learning. We'll have access to BrainPop/Jr, and I'm considering DiscEd Plus. DS7 is not the strongest reader, but making good progress. I don't know how much of our usual LA programs we'll be able to work on during this time--we use WWE and FLL, and they are rather teacher intensive. Anyways, would really appreciate suggestions for helping this be a productive time even though I won't be able to be super involved. Thanks!
  19. darn! Thanks for the information, though. That is helpful.
  20. I'm expecting twins in September, and trying to figure out ways to have an enriching homeschool experience when I will probably only be able to really spend time on the basics (LangArts & Math). This last year we had access to Discovery Education through the OnlineG3 (or whatever it was called) and I felt like it was a good supplement, whenever I thought to use it, to our science and history studies. I am wondering about just signing up for Plus and calling that our Science curriculum for the year? (In addition to using the other stuff they offer as supplements for other subjects.) What do you think? Lastly, what have you used on DE Plus that you have really loved and would recommend? I tend to get overwhelmed on resources like these and miss out on a lot of great stuff because I can't figure out where to start. Thank you!
  21. Last year we signed up through G3 or something like that to get access to BrainPop and DiscEd streaming. My pregnant brain is not helping me remember, though, and I don't know if it is available again this fall. Does anyone know?
  22. I know some of you have twins, and I know many of you have homeschooled with a new baby in the house, and would love some advice. My youngest is three now, so when he was born, I was only schooling one, and she was 6.5 at the time and we weren't doing that much, really. But when the twins arrive I will have a 5th grader and a 2nd grader, as well as an active 3 year old, so it's a whole new ball game. What did you find worked the best when you had a new baby/babies? Would love some ideas and suggestions. Thank you!
  23. We are expecting b/g twins in September and are leaning towards Max and Malinda (we'll call her Mali, pronounced Molly). :001_smile:
