I am making her eat at last some gluten every day between now and her next draw and I am going to be adamant about it. When I mentioned I to the NP she said that celiac doesn't cause anemia but I think she's not right in this.
I realized that after I posted that I was late to the party. She’s absolutely wrong. Ask her what the mechanism for iron absorption is. Spoiler: it’s absorbed in the small intestine.

Now that you’ve identified the anemia, you might consider celiac testing. My friend’s daughter was severely anemic all through high school. It wasn’t until her early 20’s that she had a full blown celiac crisis and discovered that celiac was the cause of the anemia. She’s suffered a lot of consequences for how long it went unidentified.

I’m astonished by your strength. Thank you for sharing this with us. I pray that 2019 is a year of healing and blessing for you.

So glad that she's ok! Now that you're past the crisis, I have to ask, what in the heck was going on at that lesson that she took in that much water?

Yeah, that’s weird. Kind of different but dd asked if her bf could join us for our annual Christmas Disney trip. This is a big deal for our family. After much debate we said no. I felt bad, bc at that point they were talking marriage, but it was still only. 7 month old relationship. Well, 4 months later he blindsided her and they broke up. I’m darn glad we don’t have that cloud hanging over our memories.

Poor guy! And poor mom and dad. That’s a pretty traumatic beginning.

I dealt with probably the most significant anxiety of my life in 2017. 2018 was a year of tackling those thought patterns. I feel like I’ve gotten back to my previous self this year.

I actually picked up some Kratom for my SI joint pain, which ibuprofen does pretty much nothing for. I had some vicodin left over from dental issues two years ago and that helped me sleep so I hoped the Kratom would as well. It does, but it's a "messier" pain reliever for sure. Vicodin makes me a bit happy and helps the pain. Kratom made me foggy, a bit nauseous, and not quite as good on the pain. I'd take it in a pinch, and do, for the few nights the pain is bad enough to keep me awake, but it definitely isn't the same as a clean pharmaceutical.
Yes! A group drop in "class" like some places do for nutrition, diabetes education, etc would be helpful for coping strategies and to combat the isolation many with chronic illness/pain deal with.
I'm just grateful, since I can save the rest for when we need them and can't get a regular doctor to prescribe them. A bottle of twenty pills will last years here.
I also think a problem in the USA is that our crazy work schedules/lifestyles don't leave any darned time or money for things like physical therapy. My SI joint pain would likely benefit from PT several times a week, and chiro care, but there is literally NO WAY I can make that work in my schedule, not to mention no way to afford it! Which means it is pain meds or suffer, or self treat using youtube videos (mainly what I'm doing).
We’ve stockpiled, too. Saving them for the day dh has a flare up and they refuse him an rx. Bonus- they’ll be crazy valuable during the zombie apocalypse (I kid).

My uncle was like this. I think every family has one.

I joined the Y and started going to a variety of exercise classes (even if they sound scary).

oops, coordination issues!

I took my anatomy final today. I could weep for joy at being done with that class. I have a history final tomorrow (easy) and communications group project presentation on Wednesday (also easy). This was the big mountain I needed to climb and I'm absolutely thrilled to be done.

Day 10: This year I embraced change

This infuriates me. My dh is a chronic pain patient and if he had to navigate a flare up without meds, I think he would be in danger.

She hasn't been on since early October. Anyone in touch with her? I know they were moving, but that's a long absence for her.

I think some things, when we talk about them as general issues or trends or whatever, in the abstract, can be true in some way... but can become weird or nonsense or even offensive when applied as if they're true for individual situations.
But I kind of feel like that's how everything is trending right now. It's getting absurd.
Like, seriously? If this person wants to hold there own marriage (if they have one) to that definition, fine. Have fun. But trying to redefine everyone else's marriages? Stop.
Also, how insulting to all of the women (and men) who have actually been raped.

Guys, I'm so bad at remembering to post these. Daily tasks are really not my forte. (see also: reasons why I got pregnant on the pill twice)

I wish we knew more about his childhood. He seems to have some from a loving and supportive family. I wonder if he’s always been like this or if he changed at some point. He reminds me of the guy from serial season 2. That guy had some sort if personality that created some sort of gap between his self-assessment and reality. Can’t remember the pd type. Off to look that up!

I think it’s absolutely on Baylor. I can’t believe there’s no rubric for surgical skill and no accounting for number of procedures performed. He should have been doing those few that he did under supervision, right? They keep track of hours for undergraduates, it’s appalling they don’t do it for surgery time. Or if they do, someone totally dropped the ball on accounting for this guy.
But, part of me wonders if he was given special treatment because they thought his research was going to be groundbreaking and money making. I believe they did him and the victims a grave disservice by not just steering him into research.
Not to say he doesn’t carry blame himself - that is certainly immense! I am intrigued by the thought of TBI from his football years, and how the effects of that were perhaps exacerbated by his drug use.
He did awful things, but the incredulous part is that there were no filters in place to stop him. THIRTY THREE VICTIMS. Him getting beyond two or three all in the same state is terrifying.
Wait, Baylor was his first employer, but not his school (I think- I’ll go check on that). I think Baylor is responsible for not reporting him to the registry or state.
ETA: he graduated from the University of Tennessee.
