  1. Oh, I'd buy UP in a heartbeat. Yes, the first part (a wordless, mini-film in itself that shows unrealized dreams and the heartbreak of losing a spouse) can be seen as depressing, but the deep love between the man and his wife is lovely, and the ending is great--he realizes that they DID have a wonderful life, even tho their dreams didn't turn out exactly as planned--that life as lived is just as wonderful as life dreamed, if it's filled with love. The dogs are funny ( a little scary, as most "fairy tales" are), the boy is determined, caring, and dear, and respects the old man, even when the old man is cranky and impatient.

    I loved it.

    :iagree:

I loved Up and will definitely be buying it! I'm not generally a fan of animated movies, but it was such a sweet story. As an added bonus it had less of the words that I object to (name calling....."stupid", "dumb", etc) than any other movie I've seen in ages. I think we heard one instance of "dumb" and that was it. My boys have been acting out scenes from the movie ever since we watched it. My husband and I keep quoting Dug, one of the dogs in the movie, because he was so darned cute!

Monsters vs. Aliens was cute, but nothing spectacular. The boys watched it twice but haven't done the usual pretend play that occurs after they watch a movie they really like.

  2. Okay guys, he's back. We just spotted him in the laundry room. I hadn't seen him in days, but he's figured out how to live in the wilds of the downstairs. He obviously doesn't care for peanut butter. What else shall I bait the trap with? I thought about just leaving him be until he dies of natural causes, but now....

    It's personal.

    Barb

I would bait the trap with whatever you were feeding him before he escaped.

  3. There was a homeschool mom in a social group we attended who made chain mail for her son by sewing soda can pulls onto a black sweatshirt. She used different colored pulls from different types of cans (ie. certain beer or energy drinks have colored tabs) to add a design to the front. It was A LOT of work but it looked really cool.

Oh, wow, that is a great idea!!! I might even be able to convince my mom to make that one since she loves having some hand-sewing to work on. Thank you!

  4. Isn't it great?! I have a feeling that most of our Halloween costumes will be history related. We recently finished up a study of the geography of Asia and Nik latched on to the idea of being a ninja for Halloween.

Next year we'll be learning about the Middle Ages, and he already has plans to be a knight. In full armor. :glare: I think I need to start planning how to make that costume now, because I'm certain I won't find one to buy!

  5. This evening Collin grabbed my 13yo cheeks in his hands and with narrowed eyes asked her, "Do you believe in cheeses?"

That is hilarious! I love the things little ones come up with. Nate learned a prayer at preschool. However, he insists that the way he says it is the correct way, and it is definitely not.

    "God is great,

    God is good,

    And we thank Him,

    For our food."

Except when he says "food" it rhymes with "good."

  6. I downloaded some (thanks, Kathleen:)), and these are NOT the Singapore workbooks or textbooks that many here use (myself included). They are nice downloads that you can print off that will correspond with the material presented in the Singapore books. I wouldn't use these downloads as my math program; just as a little something extra to add to whatever you may have already.

Thank you! That's exactly what I wanted to know.
