  1. Wow! I've never heard of this, but am excited to check it out!! Thanks for the heads up!
  2. I have a 13 year old who also really struggles with spelling, so this is good advice for me to remember as well. I am finding the more copywork she does, the better. We will also be starting heavy dictation this week. I am also seriously thinking of printing Webster's Spelling Book http://donpotter.net/PDF/Webster%27s%20Spelling%20Book%201824%20-%20no%20pictures.pdf as I like the way it's broken down into syllables. I also think it would help her reading.
  3. BJU does. :) BJU is just a great program overall.
  4. I have this bookmarked and ready to go for next year! I started reading it (to preview it) one night and couldn't stop! :D
  5. I have the same problem here and I also don't know how to solve it. I LOVE to read and can never have enough books around. All my kids love to be read to, but only the little ones will intentionally pick up a book on their own. If I think back to when I was little, I can clearly remember the absolute thrill I got when I realized I could read. That thrill has never gone away. Even in school, I couldn't wait to read about anything and everything, and wonder if that's why I loved school so much. That being said, I only see this "trait" in my 5 year old. She loves the feel of a book. Loves the pictures. Loves the words. So I'm not sure. Maybe it's something that's either "there" or not?
  6. Honestly I think he will be fine. :) We started using BJU history when dd 13 was in 5th grade. We also had to "jump right in". BJU does a fantastic job of introducing things and I think your kiddo would do fine. You could definitely do the Liberty's Kids videos over the summer, or even read books on early history if you feel that he needs that first. I've never used BJU's DVD's, but I think you are really going to like BJU! It's a great curriculum. :)
  7. Weaver sounds like something you would definitely be interested in. You can find it used, or AOP is having there April sale right now.
  8. Hope this isn't intruding, but I've seen this on a lot of your blogs. How can a person join in on this? :)
  9. This is very interesting for me. My 7th grader is also a poor speller. Although she's improved some with just time, she still is not good by any means. I'm going to try this. Thanks for the ideas!
  10. I've tried Miquon before and just don't "get" it. I do not have a math brain by any means, so for me it's a struggle. I would love to figure it out!
  11. He is 4 1/2 and is picking up math concepts without me doing anything. He's had no formal math, but his brain is definitely "wired" for numbers.
  12. Thanks. :) Now I'm getting confused. What is the difference between "Earlybird" and "1A/1B"? Which one is the one I want? Is there a big difference? I can't seem to find the "Earlybird" ones anywhere, even Singapore's own site!
  13. Thanks! I knew I had to missing something! I'm trying to find the lowest levels (1A/1B?) and am struggling.
