  1. Is this the regular world history book or the internet linked world history book?
  2. Ok, so Greek Alphabetarian and Greek Alphabet Code Cracker basically teach the same thing... Any one else in regards to comparing Hey Andrew... and Elem Greek???
  3. If you have used either of these, did you like it? Was there more than the greek Alphabet? Which option would be better... Alphabetarion/Hupogrammon and then on to Elementary Greek or Progressing through the Hey Andrew Series? They both appear to be Koine... any other differences? :001_huh:
  4. ok, So what is the difference between physical science and physics... if I were to use physical science instead of general? What sequence would you recommend from 5th-12th. DS is headed for the following with math... 5th SIngapore 5A/B 6th Singapore 6A/B (possibly, maybe one of their DM courses) 7th Prealgebra 8th Algebra I 9th Geometry 10th Algebra II/Trig 11th Precal/Trig 12th Calc So since he will have the math for chem etc... what science schedule sequence would you do? I am thankful to be on my knees to the Lord Daily, and for this board and all the great insight and support from the hive! still breathing! ;)
  5. :w00t:  Don't Sweat It! I need to breathe! :w00t: DS will be starting 4th next fall. All of a sudden a light went off the last few days as I was planning and mapping out curriculum. I am trying to prepare him to begin the logic stage the year after... and the high school after that. Then the thought of the math road and the science road! sigh. Thank you for the insightful info ladies. The math and science threads have really got me thinking. I know that it is most important that we use what works for him, so he can learn the materials, especially with math. I am planning for him to be able to complete calc in high school. I am also strongly considering the Apologia Sciences. THis is the sequence I am looking at for Apologia. Does this look ok? 4th Astronomy/Botany (into summer if needed) 5th Zoology's 1,2,3 (into summer if needed) 6th General Science 7th Physics or Biology? 8th Chemistry 9th Biology or Physics? 10th Advanced Physics or Biology? 11th Advanced Chemistry 12th Advanced Biology or Chemistry? thoughts? (and yes, I am remembering to still breathe!)
  6. I'm sure this has been asked. I am confused. I have been reading several of the science threads regarding curriculum choices for middle and high school. As I ponder what to use in coming years, I am not clear on what the normal sequence would be from 5th through high school. Would this change if you were gearing it for a science minded child, or future science field? When I was in high school 'moons' ago , I studied Biology, Chemistry and then Physics. Is this the norm now as well? I have read of many doing Physics before CHem... Some clarity please? :001_smile:
  7. Check out the new Ancients by Heart of Dakota. Their first one is due out now, and a new one for the next three to complete the cycle. http://www.heartofdakota.com
  8. WOW Heather, that makes alot of sense. Sounds like your dd11 is alot like my ds 9. Spelling comes naturally, and when he misses, when I get him to think about it, he realizes what is wrong. I think with solidifying the rules he knows as well as mastering new, it will lead to much better spelling of the multisyllabic words in middle and high school! I was already 99% sold, just that last little doubt, what if it doesn't work, what if... so, I'm off to add it to my order list! Thank you to everyone who replied, as always, the hive is awesome! :D
  9. I had considered starting Apologia Sciences in 5th, working towards middle and high school, yet have read a few times that it is not really considered to be as rigorous... hhmmmm.... What else would you consider... to really prepare them for what is needed in high school?

  11. Any other AAS users with insight? I am really looking for info regarding AAS, and if it would be helpful for a good speller, that comes by it naturally.
  12. I have heard wonderful things about both of these programs. I need some clarity however please. For those of you that have used either of these curriculums, I have a few questions. With DITHOR (Drawn into the heart of reading) it seems that there are assigned pages to read per day... and then various activities, and writing, answering question assignments... much of it in a workbook. The program covers all the genres. Is this correct? My understanding of Teaching the Classics is that it is more of a method. In that you learn the method, as a teacher, and it gives you various discussion questions to ask with each type of genre. Similar to how WWE gives the teacher the methods of how teach narration, copywork and dictation. Is this correct? Of the two programs, which do you prefer, and why? If you have only used one, why did you choose that method? Any input or thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks hive ladies!
  13. OK, DS9 will be in 4th next year. Typically he is a good speller. He does well on his spelling pretests in our current curriculum, as well as with spelling in general in his other work. Even with his writing, for the most part he does well. He recognizes when words are misspelled in a text or an exercise where he needs to identify the misspelled words. All that to say, we need a change. We have been using SWO, and it has been good. Yet I can see his is getting a little tired of the 'workbooky' type stuff all the time. Would you use this program with a child that is a good speller, or would they get bored with it quickly??? Thanks for any thoughts or opinions... I'm all ears! :bigear:
  14. I'm sorry, I thought being part nutso was a requirement for homeschooling! :tongue_smilie: LOL! After all, we aren't socialized, and all live in a box! Right?!
  15. Also, thank you for the code cracker suggestion. Is that done daily as well? Thanks ladies! :bigear:
  16. How does the scheduling work for Prima Latina? Is it daily? Do you spend the same amount of time each day? Are the DVD days longer? What has been your experience? Thanks for sharing! :tongue_smilie:
  17. What age or grade would be advisible to start these? DS9 will be in 4th next year. I am planning on teaching him latin, and also want to teach some basic greek. I think starting both would be too much? Perhaps start latin first then add greek the following year? Thoughts? :bigear:
  18. For those of you that answered my other thread about what you use to supplement Singapore... first off, thank you! The hive has been so helpful and full of insight! I am so appreciative! :001_smile: My question... when you use Intensive Practice for Singapore, am I correct in understanding you should use the same level you are working in? It appears to broken down in topics as the text and workbooks. Do you do one per day? Also the Challenging Word Problems... do you have ds do these daily as well??? They do not seem to be broken down the same, and I have heard you should use one level behind. If you are in 3A, then use 2B CWP. May I ask why this is? I know they are known to be really challenging... so why not use the same level? Or is it best to 'master' what they are currently on through lessons and wkbks along with intense practice, and the CWP act as review, but more in depth of concepts they have already learned??? That kind of makes more sense now that I type this out. Anyway, thank you ahead for any input or suggestions you may have? :bigear:
  19. Can you compare it to First Start French from Memoria Press? Thanks
