  1. langfam, i have felt that in Horizons 3 the TM was ok - adequate... i'm good at math, yet when we hit level 4... it was just not there for me. I wanted a more 'meaty' explanation of multiplying 2 digit multipliers... JMO
  2. I am having such a hard time with this choice! UGH! DS9 (3rd grade) is doing fine with Horizons 4... we are changing next year bc Mommy dear doesn't care for the TM and think this would be a good time to make the changes. SOOO... DS is a MATH kid. He loves it, gets it and lives, eats, sleeps and breathes it. He wants to know the hows and whys of everything. Future engineer, mathy ,sciency someone! Now that I have painted that picture for you... I am just stumped how to take him on this course of the future with MATH! Half of me says it's a no brainer... go with Singapore... everyone says it great... challenging... etc... teaches on a deeper level, yet not as spiral as Horizons. THEN the other part of me thinks to go with CLE math. It is challenging, not as much as Singapore, yet still very strong. It is a little broader, more spiral... UGH@! Can anyone give me their thoughts??? Why is this so tough?! :tongue_smilie::001_huh:
  3. abbeyej, thanks for your reply. one of the main reasons I am switching is the TM. in the upper grades in horizons, tho a great program, there is just not alot of explanation to the student. thus my switch. yet singapore only goes to 6th too... so then what i think???!!! maybe NEM with singapore, yet I hear that they teach rods vs x,y in the beginnings of algebra... ugh. this is too complicated! so what about CLE i think??? time for more prayer!
  4. Has anyone switched from Horizons Math to Singapore? If so did you or your dc like the switch??? Also, how did you find the transition and placement? Did they go to the same level in Singapore, or back half a level or a year??? My ds9 (3rd grade) is excelling in Horizons Math 4. Making 97, 98, 96 on tests... and is mastering the materials. For those of you that have switched, did you child go up, down or stay the same level wise. (I do know I will need to do the placement tests, just curious of your experiences.) Thanks for any input!
  5. I am sure this has been asked, but cannot find anything on this so here goes... :tongue_smilie: Am I correct in understanding that the textbook is the "oral" teaching part you do with the student and you work through those problems together and possibly some of it being oral??? And the workbook is what they do on their own??? Can they write in the textbook or workbook??? Also, are there tests at the end of each unit??? Can Singapore be done 4 days per week??? Thanks
  6. does anyone know about the other books??? wkbk 4 or other volumes of WWE?
  7. Hi Ladies, and any Gents:001_smile:, I am new here, and am just amazed at this board. We are in our 2nd year of homeschooling, at the mid year mark of 3rd grade. I am sure this has been already mentioned, yet couldn't find anything recent about the WWE workbooks. Can anyone tell me when workbook 4 is expected to publish? Also, any time frame with future volumes II and III? I am obviously looking ahead to future years. Any input would be great! Thanks!;)
