I used it last year as an individual, but will be using it with a small group of friends next year(each purchasing our own materials).
-
They are a local group only. They do sell their materials to others upon request, but they finally made this an easier process (now there's a website with materials and samples, rather than just emailing someone). What I like about it is that the memory work is tied to larger curriculums. There are videos available for the memory work at crossseven.org.

Yay! I was starting to get concerned because I jumped on this too quickly.

I sent you a message:)

Do you ladies know this site? Is it legit? I bought the deal, but it's so much better than homeschool buyers coop for this, I'm second guessing myself

I'm looking at doing Harmony Fine Arts in a co-op setting. How long would it take? Could we squeeze it into 30-45 minutes for the 5th-8th graders (we could assign homework)? Looking at Grade 2, Grade 6, and High School grade 9 (that one I know takes an hour).

Is there a curriculum that uses Schaffer Writing? All I can see is youtube videos and classroom resources books showing how to use it.... I'm aware Wilson Hill uses it, but we're already in three classes there and the budget is rather stretched. I'm debating if I can teach this myself. Anything comparable? She's used a lot of IEW and some Lost Tools of Writing, but I feel that my 9th grade daughter's prompt style (without sources) essay writing could use some work. Something with checklists would be a plus. Something she would work in a small co-op would be even better.

I know there is an essay evaluation add on that you can get for Old Western Culture. I don't remember if that was through Schola, Roman Roads, or Compass Classroom, though.

We completed it and LOVED it! My daughter did it as a part of a co-op, but mom and dad both watched and loved the videos!

One more try...

Has anyone used it? Thoughts?

Still, I've only heard fabulous things about the teachers. They've been fantastic about emailing back answering any questions, too. How are they changing Honors Comp? I was considering that one as well.

Oops! Double post.

My daughter is signed up for both of those Wilson Hill classes. FYI--the chemistry class will NOT be using Holt. It will be using the Novare chemistry textbook. I was told that after an open house and just reconfirmed that with the Chem teacher. They really need to update the course listing...

Not to dissuade you, but Finnish is crazy difficult. I have a Russian degree, and have also studied French, German, a bit of Swedish, and Latin. Finnish is much harder than any of those. I was an exchange student in Helsinki in college. I started out in a Finnish course, but reluctantly switched to Swedish because it was much easier. Finland is a bilingual country (everyone speaks Finnish and Swedish -- and a third language to get into college). 14 cases (if I remember correctly) compared to Russian's 6, and Latin's 5. It's only related to one other language (Hungarian?). The only easy thing about it is the pronunciation... it's fabulously consistent.

Love Dave Raymond's American History: http://www.compassclassroom.com/history/american-history.html

I used The Century: America's Time when I taught in public school. All the kids loved it. You can find all the episodes on YouTube now (they were vhs tapes). A guide for the unit is here:

I would probably have the student research social issues of each decade and look at other fun things such as music of the decades. Maybe have them make a paper or digital scrapbook?

My daughter is planning on going this year. I've only heard wonderful things about it. We'll likely just do the conference, though, as it is 15 minutes from me...

Thank you! I've enrolled my daughter. I'd love to see the syllabus for the 1+4. I'll email Mr. Etter.

I can answer that because I just emailed Mrs. Jester at Wilson Hill with the same question. She says that there is a lot of overlap with BJU Physical Science and Physics I. She would recommend moving into Chemistry (honors or regular). She says their Biology requires Chemistry first.

I'm trying to figure out if GC is enough to fulfill the English requirement, or I need to add another composition course on top of this...
It's for the new 1+4 course, but I'm guessing the writing requirements will be similar to the other Omnibus courses he's taught...
FWIW--my daughter had several years of IEW and Lost Tools of Writing with Classical Conversations. This year, she did IEW's Windows to the World.
Suggestions to add writing if needed are greatly appreciated.
