It sounds reasonable to me.
It is my backup plan.
I think I would do the same in such a situation.

Kolbe uses Holt Science and Technology: Earth Science, 2007. What is it about Holt science thru Kolbe that you like? What is the draw? Thanks!
Sorry wrong linking in my brains.
I thought is was the Biology text with the dragonfly...

We own the DVD's of his 'From Pole to Pole' journey and they show several African Countries.
May be you can find them in a library...

Perhaps we should make a list of popular movies one can flip to the French version easily before spending the $. I think Mary Poppins is one you CAN switch.
That would be a wonderfull idea!

Calvin went to school before I had to think about the next stage. He used GCSE French texts (two years), then IB French texts (two years). I don't have anything specific to recommend, however.
Do you know/have a link what CERF level will be reached at IGCSE or A - Level?
Then I have a clue what I can Use...

For those who used So You Really Want To Learn French 3, what did you use afterthat?
I am considering to use SYRWTLF 3 for grade 8 and need another 3-4 years of French after that.
I was wondering what other people used... :)

I'm going to start studying French with dd11. I have been worried about teaching French for years, so this feels really big.
I need to restart reading Latin, but I'm still having some health problems, so I'm not sure when I will be able to.
Start French first.
I share your worries about it...

I created a social group for DuoLingo users, just in case anyone is interested - http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/groups/238-duolingo/
I joined!
I am working on German now, but should restart French.

I have no DLO experience.
But most review answers can be found around the cursive words in the text.
Dd says it helps to take a look at the 'objectives' from each chapter and to check the 'what did you learn' section.
We are in Lifescience now, and so you also have to learn the pictures that explain something (layers of skin p.e.)
And the first times I had dd to teach how to learn a BJU Test.

Maybe an odd suggestion, but for adults you might want to use a solid travelguide from african countries.
I learnt the best and the fast about Belgium by reading all the history and government parts from Dutch travelguides...

I hesitate to mention it, as it might be too christian, and too rural for wat you are looking for.
But in case for others I just want to mention Journey into Africa from www.geodeo.com
And so far I can't seem to find the booklist of: 'Footsteps on our land'

We survived today.
With a Looooot of math, and a loooooooooot of History...
So in the afternoon we watched an animated Heidi TV serie in German, and we sewed on dd's quiltproject.
I call it done and go to bed. ( it is evening here now)

I just read 'The epic History of Congo'.
It is not about Africa as a whole, but I never knew the Cold War influeded the African continent that much, par exemple.
I Dutch it is not too difficult to read, so I hope it is an accessible translation in English.
Otherwise I am listening as African History is one of the topics at the highschool exit exam.
African Modern History.
I don't know if the books of Lieve Joris are translated into English.
Again about Congo, but she write about the journeys she travelled these days, also very enjoyable to read.
ETA:
These are at least middle school books, perhaps highschool level.

We started this morning.
It will be an odd week as we have Friday exam...
So it will be mainly:
history ( exam)
Math ( next exam after history)
And some dabbling in languages.
But mostly trying to get back in rythm.
Next monday it will be back to everything.

I ended at BJU Physics. No idea what level it is.
We won't do everything as we have integrated science in the language tracks.
It will be combined with several chapters from Campbells Biology and the complete IGCSE Chemistry.
I ordered also a book about organic and biochemistry and then I should have everything covered for the 12th grade science exams.
another Highschool subject planned:
Pfew...

DH reads Ulysses right now so it has to wait...Montaigne, Dostoevsky, and James are all ones I think I'd like to join in on. Maybe the Austen and the Bronte...
The read along I'm really, really excited about - and my big stretch for January - is Joyce's Ulysses. Classics and the Western Canon (on Goodreads) is starting it the 7th, with a very experienced guide. ...is anyone else interested in trying it?

So sorry I didn't stay on top of it, loesje22000! Glad you found what you needed. :)
It is not your fault!
But I used the other two threads extensively as I can't take a look in most books.
I buy most books based on these forums...
I'm not sure it will work, but now I have time to study ahead....

I was in search of that thread. ;)
I made a decision based on our examrequirements, just picking the book which covered most of our examtopics and with a solutionmanual.
but a thread would have been helpful to me

CIDEB readers are available at Black Cat in the US.
They have abridged classics but also contemprary stories

In Europe a B2 exam would definetly helpful to proof anything.
But I'm not familiar with the AP system, so I have no idea what they would accept...
Contacting them sounds as a great idea.

Le Petit Prince is considered B1 due to its poetic style.
Harry Potter is considered B1/B2 level.

I thought Joan of Geneva made such a correlating post for German or French.
I know from comparing Belgium ( where I live) to The Netherlands ( where I come from) not al European countries have the same endgoals for foreign languages. And the trackingsystems make it possible one reach A2 in grade 12 and another B2 in grade 12.
For a collegebound student following a foreign language track B2 /C1 seems to be the goal.
although I'm not sure everybody reaches C1.
There is a difference sometimes between the first foreign language and the others.
Language Arts for German & English - which one when?
in Bilingual Education Board

I would 'learn to read' in one language.
And when that is covered add reading in the second language.
We did the phonics thing twice ( one in Dutch one in English) and it didn't work the second time as she was able to read it, but just not understood the words.
I don't think formal grammar is needed at this age.
If I read your post I would start with German.
But that is just me...
