I am!I'm not optimistic of finding anyone, BUT.... we are currently in Milan, Italy and then moving at Antwerp, Belgium this summer. Anyone on this forum live in Belgium?
Feel free to ask questions :)

She still really, really wants to learn German, and I'm just flailing with how to help her, I don't know the language at all. Duolingo is too intense for an 8 year old beginner - at least for her. There is too much typing in of the words for translations, she's not ready for that. Anybody got any ideas about an inexpensive beginning German program? While we're talking about languages? :D
Planetino from Hueber?
As I live in Europe I ordered it at www.amazon.de, I have nu clue were to buy it in the USA.
As far as I know there is no German from Galore Park or MP.

I don't know how easy it would be to pull this off (since you are the teacher and all) but perhaps you could debate each other if you can't find others to debate with? It changes the dynamics a bit, but could still be pretty beneficial. You could both research a topic, decide who is pro and who is con, and then debate each other. You could give DD advice, and DD can analyze your debate and learn (and critique) your side. Perhaps once you debate each other a couple times, you can find another family member who may be interested in practicing some debate as well to switch up 'opponents'.
Speech is easy enough to do just at home (where she gives a speech to you), at least to begin with. Perhaps move up to speeches in front of family and friends after a while. Hard to get a big group together otherwise, though. Is there a Meetup.com type website in Belgium? Maybe there are some groups you can find online. Even if they are for adults, there may be some that accept kids (or kids accompanied by parents).
We seem to have an Belgium meetup.
I will that investigate further.
I like your idea of debating.

The only idea I have is maybe getting involved with local politics? I don't mean running for office, but going to town/city meetings where people can voice their thoughts/opinions on stuff. No clue if or what you have there for that.
I will think further on that, we just live for a year in this town, but this might be an option.

Oh my goodness! Sorry for assuming she lived in the States. Belgium would be a challenge!
Speech would be easier than debate to do on your own. Your child could give performances to relatives on Skype . . .
No hurt feelings!
Still liking the skype idea.
And you are right: the 'speech' part is easier to arrange.

Penguin,
This is the book I own in Dutch:
http://m.bookdepository.com/Speeches-That-Changed-World/9781848660571#expand
I could get it cheap somewhere :)
Kinsa,
Belgium has Toasmasters but it doesn't accept 18- in my area, and not one club has a youth department.

SCM Visit to North America is based on Holling and Hollings too, but adds several other books too.
You might want to check her sample pages.

I don't know if online courses would work for you, but Landry Academy offers both speech and debate classes.
Live online might be difficult due to time differences, but I will check it out.
I thought Landry offered only Lab intensives so thanks for mentioning it!

Losje, maybe we can brainstorm together :) We have a 1/2 credit of speech as a graduation requirement, and our situation is not much different than yours.
I might use the IEW Speech Bootcamp as part of the course. Here is a Coursera course. We will also watch and analyze famous speeches.
Finding opportunities to speak will be the biggest challenge. Videotaping speeches is one alternative option. It might be short of ideal, but it is better than nothing.
ETA: Do you have a college student group at your church? They might be a willing audience.
yes, I like the idea of brainstorming together!!
I have a Dutch book with 'speeches which changed the world' I will take a look at it if is a translation from something in English.
I will check the coursera course!
I don't live in a place with a university, so we don't have any students in church...
But I like the idea.

I like the idea of covering speech/debate in Highschool, but I have no clue how to make it work with one child. We have no debateclubs here, no coops.
Digging in the forum I found several dvd/video based courses, but I'm not sure if these would work.
I can get IEW's Speech bootcamp through an European seller, but I have no idea what to expect with that, and it is too expensive for 'just trying'
Dd is involved in the youth services from our church, still acts in the Christmas play, but these are 'drama' in my eyes, not what I considered 'speech'.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Or should I be realistic and skip this idea from my wishlist...

Thanks you all!
I found a neat 2012 edition within my price range.
Now a 6+ week waiting to get it here :)

With almost 13 subjects to plan I tend to spread my orders.
Sometimes I collect in online shoppingcarts and wishlist to combine shippings.
Mostly I plan and buy per subject.
I try to be finished in February for buying next schoolyear.
Then I can buy some educational stuff for me as teacher in march/april, and buy the tickets for cultural events for next season in may/June.

I did a search at the Sonlights reading lists at their 'western hemisphere' and 'eastern hemisphere' years.
I don't know how they are called now, but it gave me some nice titles to order.

Elementary Greek is a '15 min. Per day' type of program.
The textbook can you keep for your self to do the lessons orally, and the student will only see the workbook which has one exercise per day, so it is doable.
elementary greek gets done (thats why we use it at age 12) so that is a pro.
elementary greek is Koine Greek (biblical greek) and memorizes bible verse in Greek.
That migh be a con if one preferes secular textbooks.
galore park has one greek text for ancient greek which might be a good start.
Due to examrequirements I needed a lighter greek now, but our goal is to switch to a classical greek text.

It is nice, it is doable, it was fun (chemistry).
We didn't consider it strong but a nice and expensive supplement.

I'm trying to get my way through the several editions of Spielvogels Western Civilization.
Is there a huge difference between 2011/2012 and 2014 except the price?
Teacher editions seems to be a little bit cheaper then the studenttext. What is the difference between them?
Thanks for any help!

My library would be upon an Island without telephones, TVs or pets.
Not a bridge just a ferry as connection.
I might want to have a park to walk in with my book on nice days.
No cooking requirements ( food often got burned when I am reading...)
The shelves would be organized by language, and then by region/country of setting.
As I have Tinnitus ( noises in my ear) I would prefer some easy listening music as background music.
As dh works at home, a library in home will never give the same level of rest or peace.

:grouphug: , loesje. Hope you're all feeling better quickly.

IGCSE is a grade 10 level exam
A level is grade 12 level exam (roughly)
One does several IGCSE exams and just a few A-levels for a Collegebound education.
And no I have not used them, just considered them.

I'm working on a Dutch Literature study around the Dutch Indies and on an integrated Dutch/Flemish Civics course.
Working as in 'buying, reading, pondering': nothing on paper yet.

Are IGCSE courses available as a home-school product?
A local HS here just started using that for their honors program.
Personally I just use the book:
http://m.bookdepository.com/Complete-Chemistry-for-Cambridge-IGCSE-with-CD-ROM-Ingram/9780199138784
But one can enroll here:
