  1. My 8th grader is currently doing Saxon algebra 1 at home and LOF beginning algebra at a coop. He is doing great in LOF with an A average on homework and tests. Saxon, however is another story. C- average on homework and a D average on tests. He hated saxon last year too. I'm not convinced LOF is enough. What should we try next? Some of the mistakes are dumb mistakes, but I keep having to go back and reteach concepts. Last year was our first year out of public school, and he always did great in math in school.

  4. He's moving along through K math (horizons) at a good pace.
  5. I am, in a coop setting. I don't care for it to be honest with you. There aren't activities to go with each reading, it seems disjointed. The hideaways book isn't that great, there are mistakes in it, and some of the things for the kids to do have almost nothing to do with what was read. You'd be better off with SotW.
  6. What would you get if you won the lottery? Sometimes I fall asleep listing all the curriculum Id get. I live history so most of mine is centered around that. I imagine bookshelves upon bookshelves, some for each of the 4 year cycle of history, filled with textbooks and literature about the time period. I imagine walking in to a homeschool conference and going crazy with buying stuff!
  7. Can I get some recommendations for a video type guitar and piano curriculum? It is for an 8th grader who has had some prior experience.
  8. What is the difference between the free download you can get online and one you buy?
  9. Do you think it is a full curriculum for algebra +?
  10. I'm currently using MFW for middle school and I do like it. But I add to it and take away quite a bit to the program. I saw Master Books at a conference and I'm intrigued! Can you give me your thoughts on their curriculum?
  11. I've used R&S for my older child and like it for the grammer instruction. What about for a younger student though?
  12. Has anyone used this kit? What did you like and not like about it? How big and the put together models? Or - any other anatomy kit you liked better?
  13. Anyone have any curriculum suggestions for a "not your typical science" year? He's going in to 8th grade if that helps!
  14. For an eighth grader? I don't want something that is going to take massive amounts of time, but that is fun and includes info about the cultures of countries.
  15. Anyone care to link these other threads discussed earlier?
  16. I will be using MFW next year, but I want to add a math curriculum in. We've been using Shiller math this year, but I'm not super happy with it. My little guy seems to enjoy doing workbooks mostly. I'd love to hear what math you like and why?
  17. Are the CDs necessary? Has anyone used the budget version that comes without the CDs?
