  1. I am glad the OP asked. These look great per Amazon reviews:)
  2. Thank you. My son is in grade 5, do you think I should just try the workbook series for grade 5? The only Latin he has done was Sing Song last year.
  3. Hello everyone. I am curious if anyone has used this Latin root program before? The price seems right. We are interested in root study. He is in grade 5. Thanks BR
  4. I like this idea. Do you have a recommendation for a 5th grader? :)
  5. When we first started, we had an extensive schedule and yep, taekwondo also. What we found was it all looked good on paper, but eventually we would figure out what worked and what didn't. I would say, attempt your written out schedule and see how it goes. Don't beat yourself up when you cannot get to all of it:) Eventually you learn what works, what doesn't. Wishing you well.
  6. Great thread. My 9 year old is very interested in WW1 and WW2. We start 4th grade history on Friday for about 17 weeks and this will probably take about 3 weeks or so. I am looking for appropriate movies also but am concerned about the Holocaust and wonder how that is going to work out for us. We also have the Museum of Tolerance about an hour from here and was wondering if anyone has experienced the museum with their child? thanks
  7. Hi Linda, He is using Horizon right now and its too easy at this point which he claims is boring him. He saw a Saxton 76 book and said he would be interested in trying that book (level appropriate). He said he does not like the color or graphics in Horizon. He is enjoying math but prefers white board drills or coming up with our own problems to solve. Thanks for posting. I so appreciate it! Momof7, wow. I am in awe. Thanks for sharing. PS: Kudos to both of your successes! I hope to follow in your footsteps.
  8. Thanks. I was wondering, and forgive me for not knowing this, what would you call upper level math? I am thinking pre algebra? I am new at this. Thanks..I am impressed with your 7 kids and 16 years of HS. :) eta..I was wondering what you are going to use after Horizons?
  9. Thanks momof7! Do you have any recommendations? :)
  10. Hello beautiful people. We were fortunate enough to get a free copy of one of the Saxon books but it is not to be used until 6th grade. My son is 9 and is bored with Horizon and complained abut the graphics. He is doing very well in math and I do think we are ready for a change. My question is I am considering buying the set off of Rainbow Resources. This included the workbook, the solution, the tests. It says it is the 3rd edition. Does anyone know if this is the most current and for a non-math wiz (me), is it a good idea to get the entire set? Thanks for answering. :) Stevie
  11. Hello, I have no experience with this program however looking further, I was considering buying level 3 for my son. He is 9 years old and enjoys creative writing. I am looking for a progam to instill good habits. Would this be a fit and the level acceptable? I would say he is in between grade 3/4 with his writing/ Any opinion is appreciated:)

  18. My first thought is grandpa has preconceived notions of hs in general. By inquiring here, I think that's great. It will help you come up with some solid answers and help with an open discussion with him.One issue he may have is what so many of us hear when we brought up hs..socialization. I know at first my mom had her opinions. But over time, she came around and even helped me read about curriculum. So that was cool. So here are a few of mine - and I will say all the posts above reflect a lot of my own. 1. My son has weaks, strengths. The ps system tested him and agreed he has some learning disabilities but not enough that they would help me. I was essentially on my own with it all. That pushed me to take it on as I knew I would do a better job. I did not want him to get left behind. 2. I love, love, love the empowerment to create his own curriculum ( and of course praise WTM big time) and have the power to speed up or slow down anything we so desire. There is no pressure to 'get it done" to satisfy an institution. 3. We love the idea that we can slow down his exposure to the real world out there. We can protect his innocents even longer. That is HUGE to us. 4. We love the fact that we can incorporate God's Word every day during school without being told we cannot do that. 5. When my friends mention their child is up until 10:30/11:00 pm doing mindless homework, jumping through hoops, paying money to create the projects for a grade, I just smile and nod. I am so releived he will not be doing that. 6. And we love more free time and love being able to spend more time with him. Explain to grandpa that the school he attended is not the same school your kids face. It has a whole new dynamic to it and it is not good enough for your kids. lol Hopefully your hubby can also arm himself with some good dialog.I know my father in law had a moment of negativity but then came around very quick. In the end, its your kids, your choice. But harmony is nice in the family. Blessings!
  19. Ahh..good point Rosie. I will start with vocab and see what I can rent from the library as we progress. This is going to be fun! I hope:)
