Potter's School offers a one semester course on his works.

Eliana, thank you again. This will come in handy this year. May God bless you!

Potters School has a lot of all inclusive LA courses and separate Literature courses. Veritas Academy offers separate Great Books courses (Omnibus) and Writing Courses. Scholars Online Academy also offers separate Literature courses and Writing courses. I really like the textbooks they use which I think are perfect for a math and science oriented child like my second son who will not appreciate many of the Great Books but will get a great survey using the textbooks they suggest. The main reason ds.2 will not be enrolled with them is because of the text-only format they use for their classes. There is no audio at all. So, I am teaching the American Literature course this year using United States in Literature text they have suggested. English 3 with Potters School is an all inclusive LA course. HTH!

Eliana, this is wonderful!! Thank you so much. Thanks for including a few fiction titles too. The only ones in the list ds. has read are Night, 10,000 Days of Thunder, Commodore Perry in the Land of the Shogun, Guns of August, Battle Cry of Freedom, Killer Angels, and Twelve Angry Men (movie not the book).
Could you recommend some documentaries and movies too? Would like to view some that are too good to be missed. Thank you, again.

(not the brief ed.) with my 9th and 12th graders this year. I ordered the text and the Document book that accompanies it. I am thinking of using the the Study Space online for maps, flashcards, and quizzes. Could anyone tell me what you did on paper? Did everyone do all the coursework online? Just wondering. I do have Teaching Company's US History course that I plan on coordinating with this. Anyone have a syllabus to coordinate the two courses and would be willing to share? Thanks. If you have used Tindall and Shi already, do you have any comments to make about its contents? Is it too politically correct? I am hoping that TC's course would correct this? Am I right in thinking so? Thanks for any input.

King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table by Howard Pyle is good.

Due to various circumstances our family will be away from town for almost a month in July and we don't want to wait till the second week of August to know the results. So, I will be calling early morning on July 1st to know the results. Never done this for the last three years of testing.

Thank you ladies for these suggestions.
Luann, lots of hugs to you. Please post the rest of your ds' favorites when he gets back. Thanks.

He has read David McCullough's John Adams and Truman. What are other favorites or books that are absolutely wonderful that should be read. Thanks for your input.

Debra Bell offers online courses too.

My son is taking the Sat 2 biology next Sat. I think you should separate preparation for the SAT 2 from your biology course. Use any good, standard text for the course- we've used Miller & Levine's text Biology published by Prentice Hall with Kolbe's lesson plans and tests. However, in preparation for the SAT, my son has read Princeton Review's SAT 2 Biology prep book thoroughly, done their practice exams, as well as the practice exam in the book published by the College Board. He's currently reading some of the chapters in the Barron's guide. The biology course provides a thorough understanding of the material but the prep for the SAT 2 is much more focused on certain topics and requires synthesis and reasoning- better to plan on some time apart from the biology course to read a prep book and do some practice tests- Spark Notes is also good- free and online! I'll let you know how he does!
Thank you. This is very helpful.

Biology using Apologia and Thinkwell Biology in 8th grade. So it has been a while. What books would you recommend to get him thoroughly prepared for the Subject test by Oct. Would reviewing his notes from Thinkwell Biology and working through a prep book be sufficient? Please recommend your favorite prep books, texts, etc. He does not want to take AP Biology. Thanks.

We did Foerster's Algebra I but would not like to tackle Foerster's Algebra II without support. I know Math Without Borders offers a CD for Algebra II but I would like more support than what is offered through them. Would Chalkdust Algebra II help ds.2 to be quite independent with his math work. He is the sort of kid who likes to be shown what he ought to do and then go on with it. He doesn't care to puzzle out hard word problems. He is decent in math and would like to finish high school with AP Calculus AB. Would Lial's Intermediate Algebra with Jann in TX followed by Chalkdust Precalculus (Jann does not offer Precalculus) prepare him thoroughly for AP Calculus or should he start with Chalkdust Algebra II and move on to Chalkdust Precalculus. I will not be able to help him much apart from correcting his quizzes from the solutions manual. Thoughts? Thanks for any input.

Ah, I wonder if your son is in the same class as my daughter. I know there are 2 sections. My daughter is Kelly and, despite my user name, we are in NC no longer in NJ!
Nancy
Nancy, it looks like your daughter is in the other section. I am sending you a personal email.

I agree with Gwen and Nancy and want to say that Dr.Richman's AP Macro. class is wonderful. Ds. loved it and is confident about taking the exam on the 17th. It was hard to find a school that offers AP Macro. We finally found a private school that allowed ds. to take it for a fee!

preparation for the exam? What specifically did you do to help your student succeed with this online program? Please don't consider any detail as insignificant. I thought I will ask this question now as this will be fresh in memory. Plansrme and Gwen, please do share. Could you list study skills required, time management, etc that was necessary for your student to ace this course? Thanks. I have a student who is an auditory learner who maybe interesed in a couple of years. I was very hands off with my oldest and would like to plan better for the future.

Don't lose that AP number! You'll need it to get scores by phone on July 1 or, if you're really anxious, very, very late on the evening of June 30. Not, of course, that I know that from personal experience. . .. :blushing:
Best of luck to everyone!
Terri
Terri, I am keeping that number safely to call on July 1st since we will be on vacation when results arrive in the mail in mid-July. Is it $8 for all the test scores or is it per subject? Thanks.

Ds. will be taking AP Psych. at noon. On the 9th he has AP Calculus BC, 10th AP Lit. and on the 17th AP Macroeconomics. Results come out July 1st. All the best to all WTM students!

I heard only good reports about PHC from EVERY family (at least 6 or more) that I have talked to who has a student at the school. I would send my children there if they were interested in political science, history, english etc.
