ananemone, are you still around?

Well, maybe a few hymns are in order:
"When All The World Was Cursed" comes to mind.
Or the second verse to Praise the Almighty, My Soul Adore Him, which reads:
Trust not in princes; they are but mortal
Earthborn they are, and soon decay.
Naught are their counsels at life's last portal
When the dark grave doth claim its prey.
Since then no man can help afford,
Trust ye in Christ, our God and Lord!
Alleluia, alleluia.
Amen. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.â€
This Is My Song (A Song of Peace) would also be very appropriate, I think.

I get this when my body is overloaded with histamine. I sometimes get hives from heat or stress, and itchiness of the scalp often precedes the hives. Antihistamines like Zyrtec and a low-histamine diet are most helpful for me.

People might also need their own, personal Jesus. Someone to hear your prayer. Someone to care.
Also Johnny Cash.
Just a word of warning - don't combine late period JC with alcohol, he's his own depressant.
That's for sure, on both counts. JC's Hurt might be another good one for post-election catharsis. :)

For consolation on either side in case of loss, Johnny Cash's version of God's Gonna Cut You Down.
Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,
The gambler,
The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
In other words, they'll get theirs :) Eventually.
I was thinking of suggesting NIN's Head Like a Hole, which echoes the same sentiment with its "you're going to get what you deserve" line. :)
What a mess we're in.

One more: All Along the Watchtower (I like U2's version)

oooo, this is going to be fun! Apocalypse music!
Bad Moon Rising - CCR
A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall - Dylan
The End - The Doors
O Fortuna (Carmina Burana)
Dies Irae (Mozart's Requiem)
I almost suggested Mozart's Requiem.
I like Bad Moon Rising, too!

I was thinking of a large box of doughnuts washed down with some sorrow...I mean booze of some sort.

Sparkly, you're a woman after my own heart.

My previous dog was named Scout, after the character in To Kill a Mockingbird, even though he was a boy dog. :)

nm, other people did a better job articulating what I was trying to get at. :)

We have a black pastor friend who is afraid to come to our predominately white town at night. :( He doesn't make an issue of it or seek to draw attention to it, although he would be well within his rights to do so (and I would support him if he chose to do so).
His fear saddens me and encourages me to want to do something about racism. His love for all people in the face of such prejudice is inspiring to me.

If you're looking for something topical this time around, how about reading and discussing some autobiographies of female missionaries? A lot of people like the Christian Heroes Then and Now series, and quite a few of them are about women. Or perhaps a book about women in the persecuted church, like Hearts of Fire: Eight Women in the Underground Church and Their Stories of Costly Faith?

Here is an update from today, from her dad:
"Thank you so much for your prayers for us. I would like to send this picture of [--] ...one month later! Praise the Lord!...I can't seem to find a picture of [--] with stitches all over her face and hooked up to six or eight drug and sedative pumps, breathing machine, heart monitors, brain pressure monitor, feeding tube, and all sorts of needles stuck into her body. She has come an amazingly long way. We will be discharged from [rehabilitation hospital] on Monday morning, and will begin outpatient occupational and speech therapy several days a week from Monday onwards."
WTM friends, I wish you could see the photo. She is standing with her mother and not only looks well and happy, but glowing. :)
Another update from several days ago:
Thanks for your continued prayers for [--]! She has gotten settled at the rehabilitation center and is working hard towards recovery. They are doing speech therapy, problem solving exercises, daily living exercises, and continued occupational and physical therapy. The big news from today is that she was able to swallow clear liquids meaning that now there is no more restriction whatsoever on her diet! She is really happy about that! We are so so thankful that she is making good progress but know that she still has a long way to go. Please pray for her energy as the exercises are very tiring for her each day but are so essential towards her healing! Because she is so easily tired, the doctors are still hoping we keep the visitors to a minimum at this time. Thank you- each of you- so much for your prayers and support for [--] and our family! We are truly so blessed and so thankful!
If anyone would like a link to the public Facebook page about her recovery, I would be happy to send it in a PM. Thank you so much for all your thoughts and prayers!

Okay, I'll say up front that I am an Old Earth Creationist and probably would have some issues with the museum.
However, in the interest of helping you, I will say that a senior citizen from my church took a bus trip to the Ark and really, really enjoyed it. Said it was amazing. She is nearing the age of your dad, I would say.
Hope you have a great trip and an enjoyable time!

Pocket knives and multi-tools are usually appreciated by teen guys. She could get an engraved or themed knife, if she wants.

I agree! I meant to say that as well.
I posted before I read your post. :)

I'm going to be a voice of dissent here.
I don't think the OP has a poor self-image. I think she just wants to understand her continual struggle with behaviors that inconvenience those she loves. She wants to know if those behaviors are the result of an inherently flawed character (or inherent laziness, or selfishness, or whatever you'd like to call it) or a glitch in her brain, or both. I don't think those are strange questions. I've often asked them myself.
OP, I think the way you will ultimately answer these questions depends largely on whether you believe you have a self, an identity, a soul, outside of your physical brain.
You might be interested in these articles as a springboard for more exploration of the topic: from Psychology Today, You Are Not Your Brain, and from Discover, Rewiring the Brain.
Best to you, ananemone.

I'd be careful with sedatives. Animals react differently to them. We did a sedative for our cat and it actually killed him. We had hired a pet service to pick him up at our vets office, where they gave him the sedative, and bring him out to us. We got the call about an hour into his trip. It was awful. My boys were just devastated. I would never do sedatives again. He's the one pictured on my avatar. :(
I am so sorry. :(
