  1. I am decorating a room and would like some canvas prints made of fun portraits of my children. Most of their really fun pictures come from social media, so they usually originate with iPhone snapshots. My daughter tells me these are not high enough quality for a good canvas print to be made from. What's your experience with this? Is there a certain provider that's better at this among those I see advertised?

  2. Thanks Prairie! Well, she says that when looks under my lids that she's not seeing the tell-tale "bumps" that go w/ allergies. I've had eye drs. tell me in the past that I have Dry Eye so it wasn't surprising to hear that.

She didn't talk about eyelid washing at all or blocked ducts. And I haven't had Lasik. No autoimmune issues.

I'm just very, very dry: my skin, my hair, my eyes. I'm also in menopause so have had the hormone drop

I think she mentioned a humidyfier to get more moisture into the air.

    Does that sound "off?"

    Alley

Off? Maybe. Personally I do think a humidifier helps, generally speaking, but I'm surprised you didn't have a better actual determination of cause - like something from the list above. Just getting a humidifier isn't going to fix the issue.

Hydrating - from the inside and outside - helps increase comfort. But it's not going to target the cause of the problem (unless dehydration alone is the sole cause of your dry eyes, which is not likely).

  3. Yes, it is really cold right now. Although my Really Cold is Balmy to some people. But, we are in the 30's. The weather needs to get the memo that this is Texas, and that is Wrong, just Wrong!

To me if it's below 50, it might as well be 50 below.

  4. It's below zero today, and it makes me want to cry. I love you spring; please come back.

I'm taking my ds 14 to see the Last Jedi today. We're going to a theater with recliners, and every concession imaginable. That will make it better today.

    That's all, I'm just whining.

    Kelly

Are you bringing your blankie? To the movie? That sounds so cozy!

  5. The only real conclusion we can reach is that, for this time period anyway, is that the cleaning services are inadequate.

Not that the cleaner is doing a poor job, or that the office workers are lazy, but that the frequency of custodial service is not meeting the tenants' needs.

If there's anyone to be called "stupid" (which is obviously debatable), it's the building's landlord. Wouldn't surprise me if he refuses to provide more frequent cleaning -once a week is really not much- and tenants are rebelling, with the brunt of their protest falling on the janitor.

  6. Well, mine is caused by all the allergy meds. But it's kind of a catch 22 for me because without the meds my allergies are unbearable.

So there is this stupid balance for me between too dry or too runny/itchy. I often can't find the tolerable in between.

So it's worth trying some allergy med, but it's hard to say if it'll solve the problem for you.

This is where I am. Per my eye doc, allergy eye drops are a no-no for me (unless they're unbearably itchy).

  7. I stay on my antihistamines (because there is always something to be allergic to here) and try and take my contacts out earlier in the evening. Not sure if you use contacts, but switching solutions helped me too, in addition to the moisture drops.

I use the H2O2 cleaners and recently tried the latest and greatest that was supposed to provide more moisture. It actually did seem to make my eyes feel less dry, but sadly it irritated them in other ways. Changing cleaning solution is definitely worth a shot, though.

  8. From the inside out - hydrate (I mean LOTS of daily fluids!), EFAs such as fish and flax oil.

In your environment - eliminate dust as much as possible with air filtration, increase humidity however possible, avoid using climate control (blower) in your vehicle as much as possible.

Up close - tear drops every 3-4 hours whether you feel you need them or not; very warm compresses to the eyes for 5-10 minutes several times a day.

  9. Are you using a base primer?

Honestly, I am having some of the same issues. I've tried IT Cosmetics cc cream, and it's pretty good, but I still have the best coverage when I use Prime Time followed by powder. The Prime Time evens out all of my wrinkles and gives me a smooth surface on which to put my mineral foundation.

Yes, I use a primer and find that Prime Time does work the best for me! But with my fussy midlife skin, I was hoping to get away from using it on a daily basis. Sadly things aren't as simple as they used to be!

  10. especially as you...matured LOL...what brand did you switch to?

About a year ago I went from loose Bare Minerals (Bare Escentuals) to the barepro compact, which I liked. But I think I may need something different as my skin is getting dryer.

    What's working for you?

(And yeah, I think this has been asked and answered before but I'm on my phone and asking between errand stops.)

  11. When you scold them I think you should also explain. It's no excuse for leaving a gross mess but they might not understand what a dust mop even is.

Exactly. It's likely ignorance, not stupidity. Make a label or write "for dry floor dusting only" on the handle with a permanent marker.

  12. but I'm going to ask it.

I posted about my grandmother-in-law passing away, and bracing for drama, but this was a surprise to me.

My 19yo doesn't live here full time. He arrived today for the holiday. Dh was going to tell him in person. Well, it turns out, SIL took it upon herself to call ds to tell him already. And has apparently been calling him all throughout the process. By the way, ds is on the spectrum.

Her "defense " is that he's an adult. And that "that's what family does."

    I won't lie. I completely lost my <bleep>.

The question is, would you lose yours?

I have a SIL like that. I have always stuffed my reaction. Years of it has been difficult to tolerate.

    Many hugs to you.

  13. Wow, regarding your update - I personally could never have fit in baking three different recipes of cookies two days before Christmas, and the day before the cookies are needed. I need a lot more advance time for something like that. Today was my day to run a lot of errands, last minute shopping for gifts and groceries, wrap gifts and spend time this evening with visiting family members. I honestly would have had to tell her I'm so sorry, it's way too late for me to bake anything, I'd be happy to pick up some from the grocery while I'm out...

  14. :iagree:

I admire bakers. I like to watch The Great British Bake Off. I especially love consuming baked items! I own baking books and a KitchenAid, but I do not actually enjoy baking. I think part of it is the mess. And the stickiness. I don't like getting my hands into things like kneading dough or anything else. You are not alone.

Yes. Without a kitchen clean up Elf, I'm not stirring up that mess! And sugary treats are abundant without my contribution.

  15. We worked public areas to private areas. thatbmade me feel better when having visitors. Others may prefer to do exactly the opposite.

Whatever you do, keep repeating to yourself that things typically end up takin longer and costing more than originally anticipated. Helps you budget properly and stay sane in the process.

I agree with scouring magazines and web sites for ideas. Model home tours are also helpful. Much easier to work with contractors/suppliers when you can provide a good visual image as a goal.

  16. Ahhhhhhh....now it all makes sense! In the past year, I have contacted Amazon three times about orders that show up as delivered when I check the tracking information, but have not yet arrived. In all three cases, the items arrived several days later. You'd think Amazon would catch on to practices like this!

And considering that Porch Pirates are in high season, you would think Amazon would not tolerate things being marked delivered when they are not, as people are perhaps reporting merchandise as stolen when it is actually just sitting on a USPS truck somewhere.

    I actually think that's fraud.
