  1. My DD, for various reasons, did not finish her Apologia Physical Science last school year (8th) Should I have her finish it before starting Biology this year(9th) or should we just move on?

I know that PS don't always finish books I just don't want her to miss anything very important but I also don't want her to get behind in her high school studies.

  2. Yes.  I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't realize that M/D and A/S were equivalent in that acronym until I was an adult.

I also don't think I ever understood fraction division until I had to work through Math Mammoth's section on it with my 6th grader.  I remember learning the "rules" about fraction division, but I never understood the math behind the "rules" if that makes sense.  It's been good for me to have to relearn some math with my kids.  Pre-algebra here we come (thankfully my DH is a super math whiz, so he's my safety net :D).

I did not know it until this thread!

  3. My DD does Just started Pre-Algebra as a review. We had a "baby" year and I was not as attentive as I wanted to be. Hence, the review.

She watches the videos and then does the example sets. They have problems to solve in them. There are also the answers to the problems.  As you move forward you encounter the chapter tests and then unit tests.

    She really likes the presentations.

ETA: We use Firefox to access the videos that use Silverlight. Chrome is our main browser. I dislike IE in general.

Also I did not answer the original questions. Sorry. I do not think it needs to supplemented but if you have a mathy kid they might want more no matter what program you use. My dd is just a regular math student and I feel TabletClass is more than enough.

  4. This thread is crazy! I've never experienced stuff this wild, but I have had multiple people insist that they made a long-distance drive in an amount of time that they could not possibly have made it.

One was a woman who insisted that she had driven from here (Albuquerque) to Denver in 2 hours, despite multiple people in the room telling her that it takes 6 hours. Nope. She had done it in two! An interesting claim, considering she would have been driving 225 miles per hour in order to accomplish that!

Another guy told me he drove from Santa Rosa to Albuquerue in half an hour. I said that drive takes two hours. No, he had done it in half an hour, because he's such a special snowflake. Again, apparently driving well over 200 mph!

Even within the city of Albuquerque, I have had people tell me that it takes 15 minutes to get from point A to point B, when I know from much experience that it takes 40 on an average day, 30 if traffic is exceptionally light.

I'm not even sure why people insist on this nonsense. What is that accomplishing???

I live near Santa Rosa and it takes me 2 DAYS to drive to Albuquerque!

Santa Rosa, CA that is.......... :leaving:

  5. I use pockets. I have perfect size fuzzibuns and some JCTrade. (china cheapies), and a couple of bumgenius (I had to see what all the fuss was about) I am not overly fond of the bumgenius. I don't like the way the pocket has a flap. I do like the freetime I hac though(AI2) but my workhorses are my fuzzibunz. but the have more solids than prints so I have the JCTrade to get my print fix.

I tried Lil'Helper brand and I did not care for the snap in inserts but the quility was satisfactory and the company is very customer service oriented and you get littl suprises in you package. I got cloth wipes, candy, tea, and a personal letter.

  6. Make sure you find out what you can put into it and what you can't. The companies around here have different dumpsters and costs for different things. Houshold debris is different from construction waste which is different from yard waste.

That said it is the best thing we have done. We paid $392 to have it for 11 days.

  7. I would not have to work. I would have a flat in London for when I wanted excitement and a country house near Chipping Norton. I would have a garden, cats, a quilting room, a gourmet kitchen and lots of time to putter.

And when the fancy struck me I would travel to anywhere I wanted to go. First Class.

  8. The teacher response is wrong. In our TaeKwonDo studio this would not be tolerated bullying or not. The other boy lost control and one of our focuses is self control.

I am so sorry that your son felt bullied and the teachers did not back him up or at least help him examine what happend based on the bullying criteria they had just been teaching the kids to see if it was bulling or not. Was the other boy asked about it or his mother(if she was there)?

  9. I have a 6plus with 128G that I got as a remanufactured option from my carrier. I Love it! The camera is amazing. The storage is amazing. If you can get a new phone without impacting the family budget then IMO you should get what you want!

  11. I wonder, though, if Trail Life USA is likely to find themselves with the same concerns as BSA - as the BSA president said, "OUR LEGAL DEFENSES HAVE WEAKENED SINCE THE DALE CASE".  (Excuse the caps!)

Trail Life's membership policy is very similar to the BSA's current policy.

TrailLife USA identifies itself as a Christian organization. BSA does not. Traillife would have legal arguments that BSA does not due to that claim.

  12. Oh, that's a relief.  :svengo:

I thought it'd been announced that there would be no more Sherlock episodes.

  13. I used to be an Avon Lady. It can be made just as pushy as other MLM but it does not rely on new sales people to make money just new customers. If you have a regularly ordering solid customer base you don't have to recruit. But if you get an "upline" or boss that is pushy it can get uncomfortable.

  14. I will give my DD a fine arts credit for 1 hour lessons, daily 45 min practice, competitions and recitals but I also include 3 hours a week in Concert Chorus rehearsal and all the concerts they give during the year. It more than covers 1 credit.

    We are in CA.

ETA: She participates in the Certificate of Merit program and tests each year. There is theory required and it is one of her favorite parts!
