  1.

There you have it. I've been trying to find the nerve to cook up the offal bits. We have tongue, liver, heart and tails. I know folks eat these, but I haven't found my guts yet.

Tails make great broth!! Also "ox tail soup" is yummy. This is a great way to use the tails. Also after making broth you could then make french onion soup which is a favorite. It is just broth, onions, and wochestershire. I saute half the onions and then put it all in the crockpot. MMMMmmm. Now I have to make some. LOL

  2. Have you tried cleaning out everything yourself?  I was amazed at the amount of lint my machine gathers in the bobbin area.  I looked for information online about what was safe to clean out myself using things like soft brushes so I didn't force lint into weirder places with forced air, or accidentally whack something further out of alignment. I've solved some small problems that way.

Also, going forward, whatever you decide (tune up this one, get a new on) make this your motto:  LIFE IS TOO SHORT FOR CHEAP THREAD.  Cheap thread sheds lint and is more prone to gomming up the works.  If you need to save money, places like JoAnn and Hancock put decent thread on sale on a regular basis so you can stock up on basic colors at a reasonable price. I don't know what your thread-buying habits are -- maybe you've always gotten the good stuff -- but just wanted to throw that out there for anyone having problems with their machine.

I agree! My machine is old and it has definate thread preferences. The slightly more expensive thread is smoother and leaves less debis in the machine it self.   Hubby found me a Husqevarna from Craiglist. It was older, solid made of metal under the platsic outer shell. I paid $90 (going rate around here) to have it serviced. Our shop will tell you what they think of your machine. For instance on mine, they said the motor is strong just a tad bit slow. I like that. I know what to expect from my machine so it help limit any frustration I might have felt.

  3. We are flooded here in Sonoma County. Kyaking in grocery store parking lots. instersections flooded above the buttons you push to cross the street. We had bit of a break but it is now raining again. The winds were not as bad as expected but the rain is heavy.

  4. We live in a rural part of Nor. Cal about an hour north of SF and all the schools are closed. Our back yard looks like a swamp. The storm stalled over our county and we are taking a beating. Half of our town has no power.

  5. I am in. I also am at a lossto compensate for the need to not eat beans. I am nursing a little one and if I have even the smallest amount of beans she is in serious pain for about 48 hours from gas.

I am so tired with the baby and life I have let my meal planning and budget slip. I am also a too soft with my picky eaters. I am also adjusting to a newly diagnosed gluten issue for DD13

  6. There is a Tetley tea called 'British Blend' that is pretty good. I prefer PG Tips or Bewley's for my everyday black tea, but not all stores in the US carry those brands. It is imported but not as expensive as Twinings.

I love PG Tips and recently I have been able to get it at Target. :

  7. I am so sorry that your books are being damaged. I am at a loss as to why a 13 year old would do this. My 13 DD would never do this. If I have missed some background as to why this would be normal behavior for her I am sorry. To me this is UNACCEPTABLE behavior from that age and it would be a major issue in this house. She would be required to replace them and have extra household duties to perform to keep her hands busy and not destroying things.

ETA: the above statements were made under the assumption this is a deliberate action not being careless. Carelessness would still be addressed but not on the same level.

  8. I have, and that is most definitely not true everywhere.  It happened to us.   Thankfully, we didn't simply accept it at face value, and a GOOD doctor pursued it to the end.  It happened to extended family as well.  They were more than happy to just slap another old lady or man "with dementia" in a home, trust me.  I was there.

I don't believe that assertion that most people will just suddenly begin doing dangerous things.    Most people are very much creatures of habit.  What they did before, they will do again.  If they are sedentary creatures who watch TV all day, that isn't changing.  If they are on the go, go, go, all the time, that isn't likely to change either.

This thread has been started to give support to a woman that has jumped through every hoop to try and keep her IL's happy and at home. The decision to have them in memory care was made after making sure all avenues of diagnosis have been evaluated. They are where they need to be.

Jean needs support as they begin this new leg of their families journey not statements that stir up the guilt and doubt that is inevitable when making this large of a decision.

You are are absolutelly entitled to believe in and have the opinions you have expressed in this thread. However, I would suggest that if you want to have a dicussion about the diagnosis of dementia and the merits of in home elder care you start a new thread to do so and let the rest of us support Jean.

  9. I have an Husqvarna Classic 100 that my hubby surprised me with from Craigslist. I like it better than the Singer (it was the very first computerized model they every made) it replaced. It is solid( all metal) but it is slow. Check Craigslist the the Viking costy $60 (it was stuck in reverse) plus $90 to get it cleaned, unstuck, and serviced. Over all a good buy.

I quilt also and drool over the Husky Emerald!!

  10. I take ferrous gluconate daily. I take 3 pills and I take them all at night. I would not do that with ferrous sulfate, which is the most common iron supplement, due to constipation issues. I do not have digestion problems and I do not believe I have an exceptionally strong stomach or anything like that. I take the ferrous gluconate becasue I do not absorb ferrous sulfate. At the beginning of my last pregnancy I was taking ferrous sulfate and my iron was at 8.

  11. My DD13 has been in since she was 4.5. We took a couple of years off due to fiances but we are back. Discipline, structure, mental and physical self-control all benefits of martial arts.

I have seen many a squrrily child come through the doors over the years. In trouble at school, parents at their wits end and Tae Kwon Do gave them a place to focus all that energy and the tools to manage themselves.

It is goal oriented with out the outright competition with others. Your progress is judged on how far you have come from where you were not against the kids next to you. However, if you want the competitive aspect you can go to tournements if you want to but it is not required for belt progression.

Both my girls are in it know and when the baby is old enough she will be too.

  12. I felt this way during my last PG (3rd) turned out my iron was very, very low. I had to be put on iron supplements but not iron sulfate as I do not absorb it well. I take Iron gluconate.

I hope and pray you feel better soon. It is so frustrating not be able to function normally.
