  1. Would it bother you if you had prepared a Christmas eve dinner party for the whole extended family , you were in your early 90's almost completely blind, and one of the granddaughters brought her very bouncy boxer dog and insisted it had to be right by the table, as it was her child, an inside dog and part of the family?

Grandaughter is in her mid 20's

    poll to follow

I have a bouncy boxer that I love very much and I would never put the dog in a position to make my family unnecessarily uncomfortable. Rude!

  2. Homemade stills, especially during Prohibition and the World Wars, tend to be made from items that were not meant to be use for that purpose and chemicals from these leached into the moonshine. Also, some makers/seller would cut the shine with other things that then caused illness, paralysis, and even death. There was a famous side effect of one with "jake" (Jamcian ginger extract) that caused a distinct leg twitch called oddly enough.....Jake leg. ;) but only batches made after 1930. At that time the industry added a chemical called triorthocresyl phosphate to the "Jake" recipe as a extender.

Wow, I watch way to much History and Discovery Channel. There are many documentaries on Netflix and such about the history of moonshiners. It is an understudied part of our history I think.

However, it is my opinion that what really drives the illegality of \moonshine it the millions of lost tax revenue. But to look on the bright side at least it gave us NASCAR. LOL

  3. There are many more readers than read-alouds at this level. I personally would not want to choose between them. My DD11 does not like to be read to and does all the reading herself in a Core. But if I had to chose, I would chose the readers.

I have not seen the Core G LA but I do not like SL LA in general. I found it to be very bare bones as far as student instruction and teacher helps.

I used another LA program and did not purchase the LA but now you do not have a choice as LA is integrated into the IG.

  4. I am a Troop Coordinator for and AHG Troop in Northern CA. Our Pathfinder parents are required to stay. We do make exceptions for Parents who are leaders. I myself will have a Pathfinder next year. Common sense would dictate that there are times and places when a parent cannot be at every meeting and we make the decision on a case by case basis for special circumstances.

We encourage our parents at all levels, K-12, to be with their girls. We follow AHG guidelines of two-deep leadership and # of girls per registered leader. Parents nor leaders are never aloud to be alone with a girl that is not their own daughter. And by alone I mean without another adult.

I would question a troop that did not allow parents. I think that they are taking the AHG guidelines too literally and out of context.

  5. I am the Troop Coordinator for CA0158. We were the first troop outside of Ohio. I am the second Troop Coordinator having taken over from the founder in 2008. I agree it is much more like BSA. Due to the first leaders, like our founder, having boys in BSA and searching for that for their daughters. We have 48 girls ranging from 5 to 14.

We just awarded our first Stars and Stripes award. That is our equivalent to the BSA Eagle.

Please feel free to ask any manner of question and I will be happy to answer.
