That is the beauty of homeschooling -you can do what is best, the way it works best, for YOUR child.

The only place I have found to buy ASS is : http://www.all-about-spelling.com/spelling-products.html
I did not see level 2 on sale. Is there somewhere else to purchase?
-
First of all, let me say I love the curriculum board.
This is fun.
I stay up late and research curriculum.
Thanks!
:iagree:
I am reluctant to start at level 1 with my 10YO- but I sense that it IS the place to start him (if that makes sense). Is the publisher the only place to buy AAS?

What about the cards and the CD -do I need to order these too?
Honestly I think I would like Sequential Spelling better- I realy dont want to know the rules -but Ds is very bright and wants to know the why to everything -so it seems like this may be better for him (maybe some will rub off on me too)

I just bought Hake Grammer, found a good deal and could not resist. I am going ot check out Rod & Staff too though and decide between the two.
-
One more question-
Are the letter tiles a part of the student materials packet or do you need to purchase them seperately (in addition to)?
-
I am a horrible speller and I saw a gap in my older boys in this area.
I now am homeschooling DS10- who is an average speller for his age -would you still start at level 1?
-
This sounds really good- I am going to check this out for my 10YO

Can someone please tell me what 'IEW' is or give me a link so I can schek it out? TIA Melody

We have always done 4- but I have come to realize something ALWAYS seesm to come up on one of our 4 school days- so I am scheduling 5 this year.:tongue_smilie:

Rod & Staff is sending me a sample of their 6th grade books- is the R&S Grammar 6 we are talking about actually called R&S English? TIA

I really like the look of the Hake program. This may be the one for us. I like Saxon math (did not work at all for one of my DS though) so that may be swaying me...(either that or it is time for bed!) I had never heard of this either. I need to get more aquinted with what is out there.:)

We have used Rod and Staff! We used Pathway Readers the first few years we homeschooled with my older boys.
I wish they had a placement test. I ordered some samples of their books.
-
We have used both- I like MUS much better. It was much more complete to me.

Thanks for all the great replies.
I have been homeschooling a while- 10 years and I realize no curriculum is one size fits all -I just needed some inspiration! (You would think I would have all the answers and not be asking questions like this at this point...)
I have never tried Rod and Staff (no idea why!) but I will check out their grammar. I am still not sure what we will use but I am crossing Winston off the list. I may narrow it down and then let DS decide.
This is what else we are using - we are pretty eclectic:tongue_smilie:
Bible: Bible; Training Hearts Teaching Minds; Created to Work; Hopefully New Testament Lapbook
Math: Saxon 65;
Science: Christian Kid Explore Biology;
Language Arts: Jump In; Vocabulary Cartoons & English From the Roots Up & Rummy Roots; Weaver Spelling; Grammar??
American History: -lapbook/notebooks from homeschool in the Woods, videos from The Teaching Co, lots for reading , also a US Geography notebook.
I am going to look at Rod and Staff and maybe some of the others now!

Grammar is definitely not one of our favorite subjects, but never-the-less must be studied. So, I am trying to decided how to tackle it this year with my 10 year old son. We have used Easy Grammar in the past and it is OK, but if there is something better out there.....
The ones I have looked at are:
Easy Grammar 6
Analytical Grammar
Winston Grammar
Growing with Grammar
Can I please have your recommendations &/or reasons you did not like a certain grammar program?
:001_smile: TIA Melody

Singapore - the one math program I never considered using!
Well, we are happy with Saxon -(this son, the only one HS now, previous ones hated it -so I think it depends on the child) but probably will switch to TT next year. I have never considered Singapor- I will have to check it out.:) Melody

hmmm,
I just bought A Child's Story of America and have several other resources...guess maybe I will skip this one for now- though I might enjoy reading it.
Thanks for the help -Melody

Thanks - We are Christians so I have no problem with that.
I guess the questions I am really wanting to ask are- How well writen is it? Is it something my 10 YO son might enjoy reading on his own? Does it make an interesting read aloud? or Is it a little dry with good facts?
Thanks! Melody

Hi!
I Am new here - but not to homeschooling.
We are doing American History this year and I am pulling together my own study-
Can I get some opinions on America’s Providential History?
TIA :001_smile: Melody
I need a new bible. What version do you have and why did you choose it?

Me Too! I have KJV, NKJV, NIV, AMP, The Message (which I used only occationally for reference) & NASB.
I use NKJV and AMP the most.
One thing about switching around- it messes with your memorization.
