  1. Down escalators. It is my firm belief that everyone can have one fear that they do not have to explain or apologize for, and mine is down escalators. When I was a child, my oldest sister decided I shouldn't be afraid of them and made me ride one over and over about 10 times - that really cemented the fear.
  2. It makes perfect sense! I have the same problem! And twins is just a lot of work no matter how you slice it!
  3. Thanks! *smacks head* Why don't I ever think of ebay?
  4. We recently had our 12 yo dd evaluated for her dyslexia and dysgraphia, and the tester recommended teaching her touch-typing and said that this program was a good one for people with dyslexia. Version 3 is $70 on Amazon. Has anyone used this program?
  5. There are people who are speaking non-native languages with their dc. I speak German to my twins, who are 2, and plan to do so with my new baby. It is hard to do it when they are older though! You can check out my blog for my experiences. I just reviewed a book that might help you called "The Bilingual Edge." www.homeschoolblogger.com/cathmom And here is another helpful blog of a lady speaking non-native French: http://babybilingual.blogspot.com/ I haven't quite figured out how I will homeschool them and keep up with the German - probably try to do half in English and half in German. HTH!
  6. Unless you have an incredibly high income, half of the expenses will not be half of the sticker price of college. You will fill out the Financial Aid Form, and that will calculate your family's expected contribution (In our case, it was $0). Individual schools will offer your children a package. If the price of the college is $30K a year, usually the package will cover everything except your expected contribution, using scholarships, loans, work-study, etc. Those are the numbers you work with. I would think that following a classical program for high school would seriously impress colleges. My son did not really follow WTM - we basically did our own thing - and he is starting in the fall at a state school on a full scholarship, covering everything including books and is in their honors program. I think it's worth it!
  7. I cannot wait!! My oldest son and I saw the play last fall and plan to go see the movie on Saturday!!!!
  8. A couple of years ago, I made up literature lists for high school for my oldest child, one British and one American. I put some things on there I haven't actually read myself. I decided that this school year, I am going to read through the British lit list, at the same time as my oldest is taking a survey course on British lit at college. That way we can discuss British lit to keep in touch!
