  1. Does or has anyone use Children Desiring God's Sunday School curriculum at home for bible curriculum? Thanks!
  2. Thanks for all the info! I registered my daughter and also found out that this troop is BRAND NEW! They are just starting and nobody knows anything...due to circumstances, I am now the pathfinders unit leader. LOL!! So...I guess I'm in. Seems like a fun group. It's at a catholic church and most of the moms all go to the catholic church. I am not catholic but I think everything will work out.
  3. I'm planning to use sonlight core A in the fall, and I know that sonlight has bible readings and scripture memory included in the IG. Does anyone ditch what your curriculum suggests and do your own thing? What do you guys who piece everything together use? I was thinking of using Names of God from children desiring God along with catechism from Big ideas for little kids. Any other ideas?
  4. I am planning to use Core A for 1st grade in the fall. My plan is to NOT use SL LA (I have LA K and it's not for us at all.). I am going to use FLL1, WWE1, AAS1, and the readers 2 schedule from SL.
  5. I am using A Reason for Handwriting K. I have the "A" book but the lines were too small and frustrating for my 5 year old (who loves to color, draw, and write). I'm saving "A" for when she's done with "K." It's simple and straightforward.
  6. Im just dreaming of next year...and don't have FLL1 or WWE1 or AAS1 yet but plan on using both for 1st grade. How many lessons are scheduled per week for each program?
  7. I'm currently using The Reading Lesson. Easy to use and I like it. Around lesson 14, I had her only read the stories in the book...no more reading words in isolation or the letters at the beginning of each chapter. I was losing my mind with the letters. Boooooring.
  8. I wanted to supplement LHFHG with the book list in the appendix...just b/c we LOVE books and having lots of them! But unfortunately we don't have the money to buy tons and tons of books. Most of the books were unavailable in my library and I live a LARGE city. If I had $$$, I would have bought some of them.
  9. Thank you both!! On my phone and trying to figure out the new forum! :)
  10. My dd is almost done with earlybird math. I had planned to use HOD's curriculum for 1st grade but changed my mind after using SL for kinder. HOD uses the US edition in their curriculum. Anywho, I found the US edition 1A and 1B for cheap at a homeschool store. Will it hurt if I use US edition for 1A and 1B with the HIGs and then switch to the standards edition for 2A and beyond? Or should I sell my 1A and 1B US and get 1A and 1B in the standards edition? TIA!!
  11. Anyone involved with this org? What's it all about? Heard about it fom a friend and would like real life reviews.
  12. I think HOD is too bossy and too one sided for my taste. I lean Calvinist and all the way reformed doctrine, so I thoroughly agree with the bent of HOD, but my kids are not always going to be hearing things from that perspective. I want them to have guidance as they learn that others have other opinions and POVs. I want to teach them how to defend their faith. I also want them to have a heart for lost people and other cultures. That they can carry on a conversation in an intellectual manner with unsaved people while not losing their bearings bc they are hearing something different than they believe and thinking through/processing those ideas for the first time with no words to say (not that they lose their faith, just don't know how to defend it when it really matters). Just my two cents...maybe HOD does that and can do that but I didn't see it working out for my family long term.
  13. Share your acyivities! I'll be starting core A in the fall.
  14. I used them when I taught public school. I loved them but never had the time to really go deep into them. Can't wait to use them in our hs.
  15. Thanks for your input. This answers a lot of my questions and helps with my internal dilemmas!! I feel the need to start formal grammar and writing in 1st grade b/c of my background--certified public school teacher! :( I definitely like the looks of MCT and would rather start later than sooner. :) I think I need to :chillpill: and just follow my gut!! Ha! Easier said than done!
  16. For those of you whose MCT, do yu buy the whole package for one full year? Do you start in third grade? Is it similar to FLL and WWE? Which would you recommend? If I choose MCT, what would i do in lower grade for grammar and writing?
  17. It looks really good but I can't find anything either!
  18. Has anyone used easy classical for first or second grade? How did you like it? Have you ever seen the guides for sale used? Thanks!
  19. Oh my! I didn't realize AAS taught syllable types! I'm totally sold for next year!
  20. I'm hoping it isn't too much. I don't want it tone too much or not put in enough...ha! I'm hardly rigorous but I want her to be challenged. She's reading close to a 1st grade level now, and I probably won't start official first grade curriculum until the fall...so she will be reading well by then...I'm guessing 2nd grade level. I'm not interested in any more phonics for reading instruction...just working on reading/comprehension strategies (I am certified teacher, taught elementary reading so I'm confident in the reading area...other areas not so much). The our state friday is a great idea!! Thanks!
  21. Thanks for the suggestions! I was thinking the copy work would be enough for handwriting until we start learning cursive in 2nd or 3rd? I like the idea of the state placemat though!! My thinking was that since we will be covering cultures, I'd like for her to understand where she lives in relation to the cultures/countries we will be studying. ** Thanks for all the advice so far!
