  1. My 11yo got hit by a baseball, a line drive that took a bad bounce. He was playing 3rd base. It smacked his cheekbone right under his eye. He was coming to his knees to catch it when he got hit. Then he fell flat on his face. The coaches were laying down by him and I literally thought he died, and I ran out there! His face had a large plum size swelling already. We iced it. I took him home to try the urgent care but they were all closed last night. My husband saw it when we got home and thought it was worse than my description. But, he thought it was ok (like the coaches did) bc there wasn't an indentation and he could see fine. Today, his eye is swollen completely shut. His cheek is huge also. There is a tiny dent in the swollen cheek area, but I think it is from the seam of the baseball. He says it hurts to look to the right. Edited for privacy, thanks for the advice!
  2. I edited my post to reflect my current plan... Thanks for any advice!
  3. We would like Cultural and Physical Geography. We just don't have time for a large textbook, she is so behind in Glencoe, and we aren't fans anyway. We also have the Usborne encyclopedia, but that seems too little, but better than nothing! I just want them to have enough geographical literacy to begin high school work and to comprehend current world events. Continent by continent organization preferred. I would like to be done with this by June. After reading replies I'm thinking of just this: -Kingfisher World Geography from library -Continent book series from library -Globetrekker online epsidoes from their website's youtube channel -Settera -I typed up and printed out the K-6 Core Knowledge geography goals (from What your Child Needs to Know series, library) to make sure she has memorized by June That is it. Sound like enough for basic literacy? Or would you add Challenging World Geography workbook to that still? We work 7:30-3, and she is is really full in evenings. I don't want to add too much...
  4. Ok thanks. This has probably been asked a lot. Appreciate it!
  5. My daughter is retesting the SAT as an 8th grader. She did well in 7th with Duke Tip and we are retesting on our own for practice. The ticket says 8th graders and under don't have to provide a photo id if they are testing with Duke Tip. She still has last year's id waiver form, but it says 2012. I emailed Duke Tip to see if they would send me another id waiver for this year. I assume I have to go get her a photo id somewhere? She obviously doesn't have a school id. Where do you get an id for a 13yo? Thanks!
  6. I can ask her teacher about AP Music Theory in 11th. Belhaven is dual enrollment english, history and culture online. I should probably keep Ap Chem after Bio and Chem. That was my 4 year science high school track too. :)
  7. I talked with Amy Barr, and my husband and I decided to have her start Lukeion in 9th. Making to AP Latin is important to all of us. Does anyone have anything to say a out any other subject in our plan? I never would have figured out Latin was a problem without your help!
  8. You have given me so much to think about. I didn't know we were in trouble with Latin. Would you all recommend doubling up on Third and Fourth form in 9th and then moving to Lukeion in 10th? I hate to spend 4 years on online Latin classes when I will use the Form series with her younger brother. I emailed Lukeion to ask as well.
  9. I have been asking Memoria Press about how to prepare for AP Latin in 12th. We really want college credit for Latin. She could double up Third and Fourth Form next year. It is a very easy subject for her so far. But the series really ramps up in Fourth I hear. I can email another provider like Lukeion to see what they suggest. Belhaven High Scholars is a dual enrollment humanities program through Belhaven University and Potter's school. We are using it in place of Aps for histories, english and art history. I will take your suggestion and switch Chem sat2 to after Ap Chem.
  10. I don't want to cut and paste the Memoria Press response, but they said Henle 2 follows the Form series and is covered in Latin 3. The Form series = Henle 1, the complete grammar. I still have my old Wheelocks. I was translating after 2 summer sessions after my freshman year. I think their slow and steady approach will be ok. She may have to ramp it up faster than her brother, but I'm here to help.
  11. I asked MP and the WTM boards about what to follow Fourth Form with. Hopefully that is right! You have to test into Lukeion. She may have to squeeze Spanish in summer school. I am hoping it will be easy for her after Latin. I hope Music Theory will be easy for her. She has TONS of theory under her belt already. I thought 12th looked a little iffy myself. I would love for them to be done with foreign language before college. Spanish hurt my gpa my freshman year!
  12. I would appreciate any comments. She is a humanities loving, bright girl. She currently wants to go to schools like UNCCH or Baylor to study speech pathology. She has lots of experience with her brothers, so has long term thoughts at a young age. :) Can this be done in 8 hours a day? I have a tendancy to WAY overdo. She has several of volunteer activities with volleyball and theatre in some evenings. 9th: Math – Chalkdust Geometry Lang. 13. NC State and UNCCH have transfer credit pages. They show Belhaven English, History and Art appreciation transfer credits. Not the exact courses, but the webpage states that they are representative of past transfers. I think if they accept credits from Belhaven, they might be able to transfer credit for electives. It is a lot of history and english credits for a non major though. We are seriously considering this instead of humanities AP classes. We would still plan AP sciences, Calculus, Latin. My son would add Comp. Sci. and Statistics. My daughter is interested in Psychology. But that seems WAY more doable than all of the AP classes were planning. Belhaven says to plan 4 hours a day. 11th grade would add online Latin, Chalkdust Precalculus, AP Psych and AP Chem. 12th grade would add AP Latin, AP Science, and AP Calculus. Still seems crazy
  14. I am considering this instead of AP humanities courses. I would like to call schools to see if they would accept credits. Baylor, NC State or Chapel Hill first.

  16. My daughter is signing up for her first online AP class as a 9th grader. I'm a little concerned because they are switching to an online text instead of a traditional textbook. http://soomopublishi...m/centralideas/ I am worried that this approach doesn't have the proven AP score rate as a traditional textbook. Eta: This online rext is actually on the College Board list of recommended texts. I still would like any thoughts you have about this choice. Thanks.
  17. Oh no. I will pray for your family.
  18. My husband and I are Baylor grads. We live in NC, but if my kids can get National Merit finalist, they will go there. :) Seriously, they offer full tuition for NMF, and that is the only way my twin and I were able to go. Great experience, we love Baylor!
  19. Ok thanks. We really don't want to deal with money and file as a nonprofit. So, we will go the do it ourselves as simply as possible route. I have some direction from the pm now. I had no idea bow much it would cost to pay someone!
  20. Our children are starting a service organization. It is a great and well thought out plan, but we have no idea how to make a website with a blog. Is it possible to learn this ourselves? Where to start? Or would It be better to hire someone? Is local or online better? How much would this cost? Thank you so much for any direction!
  21. Thanks! I emailed her to request a syllabus. Do you think- Laurel Tree Tutorials High School Composition 9th Potter's School Advanced Composition 10th
  22. Susan Richman already replied. Ms. Califf will have the website updated by Sunday night. Phew!
  23. Oh no! I hope not I emailed the main website address to ask. Is anything else open to a 9th grader?
