  1. For the last 3 years, he has had sleep onset insommnia. On his own, he doesn't fall asleep until 1am. We have to start school by 8am. I think our issues last year were bc of his sleep issues. I am sure his sleep issues relate to type 1 diabetes: anxiety as he feels his blood sugar fluctuate, sleeping on his pump, catheter in skin pulling. We are having a pump break using shots. Benadryl causes a morning hangover, so we can't use it daily. Melatonin is a miracle, but I don't think it is safe for puberty and reproductive health based on a quick google search. Any thoughts on that? What to do???
  2. Not Bill Gothard. It is newer and I suppose popular bc I know 3 randoms people involved from opposite side of the country. I searched on the boards when I first heard about it and there were threads. I just cannot remember the name now!
  3. I know several friends around the country who have attended a conference that has really changed them. They all sign up for repeat conferences. It is kind of intense, expensive and secretive. My husband wants to read up on it but I can't remember the name. Does this ring a bell for anyone?
  4. I would like a quick comprehnsion assessment, not full teacher's guides. I think these are chapter multiple choice tests. Good option?
  5. I agree with the Mindset book. It has helped me with the same problem.
  6. Ok thanks. I found a dealer on ebay with 1000s of reviews and 99.5%. I just need it for wireless, so I'm sure it is fine. HTC with charger for $22 free shipping and 60 day warranty. :)

  9. My 15yo son with special needs uses my old smartphone as an "ipod" with wireless. He loves youtube and pandora as well as a few apps on it. He dropped it in a parking lot and didn't tell me before we were down the road. By the time we returned it was stolen. I had to change all our passwords just in case. Grrr. But, now what do I do??? It was the phone that I had before I updated. Can you buy a decent used phone inexpensively? Where is a reputable place? I don't want to buy something stolen and I don't want to spend more than $30 since he won't keep up with it. Thanks for any advice.

  12. Thanks! That is funny, what does your ideal town look like?
  13. Thanks Jennifer and NicAnn. I'll google both. Does the decline of Detroit affect your area? Port Orchard is the town the Cedar Cove books were modeled on. The show is what got us talking. :)
  14. I'm just dreaming but where would this be? I lived in Longmeadow Mass growing up, which met a lot but not all of these! I live in the burbs of a medium/large southern city now and I'm kind of over it! Small enough to bike to farmer's market or grocery, library, etc. Near ocean or large lake Scenic parks and trails Large, excellent, preferably teaching hospital within 30 min. Cultural opportunities within 30 min. Ballet, symphony, museums etc. Low crime Excellent schools just in case Can buy a 2000 sq ft. home for 250, 000 to 350, 000
  15. Pamela, how did you go over those review questions? Did you have a BJU answer key? Which one? Thanks everyone. I thought Dive recommended lecture first but was mistaken. We will use the TC learning journal, vocab flashcards, and consider the review questions Pamela suggested in order to deepen comprehension. Any other advice? She wants to do well on Sat2, but we'll see how things are going by 2nd sem before we sign her up. And we will definately hide her score if necessary. :) We have the Cambell's text and reading schedule too. She doesn't plan on AP for science, at her request. Dive Bio, Chem, Physics then community college credit senior year.
  16. Does anyone use the Learning Journal method from TC Superstar Student? Basically, it recommends to take notes on the chapter first, then take notes on the lecture. Last, study for a test by integrating notes. This is our only lecture course to implement the strategy. It is different than the Dive teacher recommends. Any opinions?
  17. The Open Yale course is amazing. She wants to watch from lecture 17 on before school starts. Thanks so much.
  18. Thanks everyone. Asked my sis (law prof) and she recommended Stuck in Place, by Sharkey. I also found some streaming docs about hip hop. I have to ILL the book, so I would still appreciate any book recs.
  19. Thanks Candid, great idea. I didn't know about it. Ed. Website bookstore doesn't have a lot to offer. Anyone have books or docs to recommend?
  20. Our children chose research projects this summer. My daughter chose civil rights movement. We all participated bc it is so interesting. Our son is AA btw. We covered pre 1950s thoroughly in the past, but this is our first study of civil rights to now. Anyway, our resources so far are: Eyes on the Prize- most amazing documentary I have ever seen, and I have seen 100s Time of Trial, Time of Hope (Being Black in America from 1919-1941), Milton Meltzer There Comes a Time, Milton Meltzer From Plantation to Ghetto, August Meier - one chapter on post 1966, but I would like a doc or book We are looking for post 1966 resources. Urban issues, post desegregation white flight, hip hop rise in Bronx 70s etc. Something considered the best like Eyes on the Prize. I'm having trouble with Google bc I don't know quite what to search. The books we have are Truthquest recs. I like her balanced approach to choosing books btw. Thanks for any help.
  21. The vis-ed are all so tiny. That is why I wasn't sure why they are recommended? Which size or how many? I could buy 1000 of regular ruled index card on sale and inexpensively. She wants to get a system she can stick with.
  22. We received an email from Lukeion with a link to purchase blank flashcards. Can anyone recommend the best size? And how many? Thanks! http://www.vis-ed.com/products/?s_category=Blank_cards
