  1. I’m a dentist. I use regular Crest. The most important ingredient in any toothpaste is the fluoride. So if you want to spend more money for more foaminess or a certain flavor, go for it. As long as it has fluoride.

We have mountains of evidence that fluoride is safe at the levels in toothpaste. Hydroxyapatite is probably good, but I’m waiting for more studies. Plus, fluorapatite is stronger than hydroxyapatite so I don’t think it will ultimately be BETTER than fluoride. It will just not be fluoride which some people are needlessly afraid of. (Your enamel is made of hydroxyapatite. When the enamel is remineralized with fluoride, it becomes a slightly different crystalline structure known as fluorapetite.)

Also, many sensitivity toothpastes are effective for sensitivity by blocking the pores from the dentin to the nerve.

  2. I love Wegmans too. Started going there only for the produce, but now I shop there for everything. Store is always clean. Some are fancier than others. Once in cities tend to be pretty ordinary, but I’ve been in some that have a European feel, or a second floor eating area, or a piano player on Saturdays.

My son lived in Florida for five years and the Publix wasn’t too bad, but the produce was a constant disappointment at Publix.

I think this is the kind of thing where you’re best served by going to a higher service shoe store. They’re generally local or very small chains.

I don’t know of any local shoe stores in my small city. I’ll keep my ears open though.

  4. I have gotten to the point where I feel like I need to start investing in good shoes. I have pretty much stopped wearing heels to work, but even just wearing flats I find my feet are sore at the end of the day. And I’m not on my feet a lot! I do NOT have wide feet. I think that the flats I’ve been wearing have NO support though. Is there such a thing as stylish flats with good arch support and cushiony inside? Links appreciated.

The smartypants brand multivitamin gummy is pretty good. Just make sure to brush teeth afterwards. I once heard a dentist discuss he owed his upgraded practice, house, and car all to gummy vitamins.

I was just at a dental continuing ed course last week and the pediatric dentist also mentioned how awful gummy vitamins are for teeth. Gummy food of all kinds are the absolute worst for your teeth. Even brushing immediately afterwards isn’t enough. Maybe cheese, an apple, AND brushing.

My dad has accounts at 5-6 banks/credit union accounts (long time member). Even though several of them used to do it, only one of them now redeems bonds. It is not so common here anymore and we live in No. VA near DC.

Wow, I had no idea it was getting so rare. I guess I should be glad I just redeemed the last of them.

There is now only one bank/credit union in my area that will redeem savings bonds. If I could get my dad to one of his credit unions, they would do it, but they will not let me do it as POA and secondary trustee. I have to mail them all in - PITA. You mail them into Treasury Direct.

Yes, I wouldn’t think it would be an easy process for you with POA. I was thinking more of the people here who are just sitting on matured bonds.

I saw lyft gives me the option for paypal.  haven't started setting up an uber account.

Just choose one or the other. If this is not something you expect to be doing often, and you feel short on time, just pick either Uber OR Lyft. I've only ever used Uber, but I imagine Lyft is similar.

After the ride is over, they will ask if you want to tip the drive (Yes, you do). They will also ask you to rate your experience (they will rate how good a passenger you are also).

Yeah, no it isn't.  I don't think any of our banks in town do it...

This is interesting to me. I’ve had many many bonds over the years. I just redeemed our very last one a few months ago. I’ve always just gone to the bank. No problem. So, I’m over here shaking my head about all the people who don’t redeem them when they mature. But now I understand a little better…if my bank didn’t do it, I wouldn’t know how to redeem them either!

  10. Gardenmom, if I recall, you will want to download the app before your trip. You will probably need to create an account, or st the very least, enter your credit card information into the app. Don’t wait until you’re at the airport.

I’m only saying this because you said you needed step by step instructions. Once you download the app, it’s not difficult but it might take a little bit of time.

I'm old enough to remember when cashing in savings bonds was as simple as walking into your bank, but my understanding is that it's not always that simple nowadays. From this Nerdwallet article:

I just did it a few months ago at my local bank. But I understand that people don’t always have a local bank any more.

I’m in this category.  Plus we bought several the first few years we were married.  We talked about using them years ago, but got confused about which were matured and how to get the money from them.  So we did nothing.

You take them to the bank and tell the cashier that you want to redeem them. Very simple process. Plus, if you use them for education, I believe there is some kind of tax break.

I do not work on a Mac, but on the PC version, you can click on "account" in Powerpoint.  It will show you what your license is (and there is an option to switch to other accounts if you may have some work license versus a personal license).

Yes, it says I have no license. I’m convinced having a work account that I access from home has messed things up. I have tried to sign into my own personal Microsoft account (I know I have one cuz I wrote down the email address and password), but it refuses to let me sign into it. Only wants me to use my work email.

What happens if you try to open an existing PowerPoint file?

Greya question. I didn’t think of that.

It opens just fine. But I can’t edit them! Oh no! And it has that yellow bar across the too that doesn’t say anything.

Oh, how weird…I almost put up a very similar post last week. I have used Stitch Fix for years and years but quit a couple years ago. SF was *usually* okay, was really bad a couple of times, but I was thinking about trying something else. I see the Daily Look ads and thought I might try that one.

I've tried Stitch Fix a couple of times. Usually, they're pretty good in the beginning. But then it gets worse and worse (or too similar to the previous item that I said I liked). So I end up canceling it. Interested in trying something new.

  16. This must have been discussed somewhere here. If so, just point me in the right direction please. I’m looking for recommendations for one of those subscription clothes places. Mostly for work stuff. Anyone have any preferences?
