  1. Okay...I started reading this thread and became fascinated with the only child connection. Hmmm. I am an only and struggle with these issues but never correlated it with having no siblings. I always thought my selfishness resulted from that or my wanting to have much "alone" time. But my lack of self-discilpline...never saw that connection. Fascinating! You just never know what you are going to get on these boards:001_smile:
  2. We are using the LnL lapbook for Apologia's General Science. What I am doing, after getting suggestions from people on the LnL yahoo group is to just use them for the study day(s). I do a lot of the cutting and folding since my dd really doesn't want to do that part and I don't want to add much more to her already large workload. I think the only real benefit, for us, is that at the end og the course, the Lapbook will be something more concrete to see, then if she had just done the study questions on say a piece of paper. HTH. Beth
  3. I just wanted to chime in to your post and say that I think there has become a sense of intitlement in all areas of life and this is included. I see people all the time having babies with no resources to take care of them, if not for all the gifts that are given to them. I personally do enjoy the idea of purchasing something for someone that they need, but it has become quite "calculated" as you suggested, with the ever loving help of corporate america. just my $.02:iagree:
  4. I have really learned to love the Truthquest guides, but it took me a few years to grow into them. I think it really scared me at first to use something so "unstructured", but now I really appreciate not feeling the pressure to move off a topic we are really enjoying because someone or something tells me it is time. I really enjoy the extensive list and Michelle Miller's commentaries. If you love reading and so do your kids, this is the way to go. HTH, Beth
  5. Did you gals order workbook 1 also? It looks as if my main book is coming but the workbook not untill August. But I am happy to get something.:)
  6. Who decides when Amazon gets the books? PHP or another source??
  7. I was wondering...am I not supporting PHP when I buy their products from another source? Obviously they make more money, but I was under the impression if I buy something that they published, they indeed make money. The difference in price between PHP and amazon for the hardcover book and a workbook is about $22.
  8. Thanks Jan! Well I couldn't even tell how much the books were on PHP and I thought I recalled seeing a post from SWB about getting something "extra" if you ordered form them. So I was just curious if anyone got an "extra".;)
  9. Hi there, I was just wondering if someone can tell me if there is a benefit to ordering WWE form PHP over Amazon. Sorry if this has already been answered. I tried to find my answer in the very LONG thread:) Thanks, Beth
  10. We love these copywork books by Sandi Queen. Here is a link. http://www.queenhomeschool.com/alphapage/alphaframe.html HTH, Beth:)
  11. I thought I was the only one to say "IEW is the best homeschooling money I spend." I have used it for 3 years with my now 12 yod. I have the TWSS, SWI-A, SICC-A. Not to mention the poetry memorization and Teaching the Classics. We are trying the history based writing for the first time this year. HTH, Beth
  12. Last year, my six year old did HWT and copywork. We did HWT one day and copywork the next. Unless it was after Christmas or a birthday when we had to do thank you notes. Then he just did a line or two a day of copywork for the notes. I thought his handwriting really improved from the copywork. I would just write the note on lined paper(you know the kind with big lines) in my best printing and he would copy it. The grandparents loved getting those notes! HTH, Beth
  13. This website helped me immensly when my ds was suffering with horrible eczema. http://www.eczema.net/healing_eczema_book.html I tend to agree with proudmamma. Although, I am a huge proponent of raw milk, I don't think you have to switch to it, to cure eczema if you aren't sure. But it certainly couldn't hurt. The most helpful things for my son were probiotics, flax oil and avoid all antibiotics and conventional meds for eczema. Avoiding wheat was also helpful. My $.02 FWIW! HTH! Beth
