  1. I believe the "Hive Mind" vocabulary started on the K-8 General Board, so Kathleen you may have missed references to it over the past couple of years. I too find this new forum a bit awkward. As with anything, though, there is probably a learning curve. Once we've mastered it, we may not want to go back to Egypt. :o) I do want to encourage all the old-timers and marathon-finishers to stay here! Your perspective and information is unmatched anywhere else I've looked! Blessings to all, Lisa
  2. Also, don't forget KIN that Veritas offers Omnibus on-line. So if you really can't manage the discussion time, this is always an option. I have a friend with two kids in the class and they love it. Lisa
  3. I'm reading: Total Truth, Nancy Pearcey, The History of the Ancient World, Bauer And something I really need: 30 Days to Tame the Tongue :o) It's taking me longer than 30 days to accomplish this. Between those and my Precepts Bible Study, I'm swamped at night after I get the littles to bed. Blessings, Lisa
  4. We've used several spelling programs. I have two natural spellers, a fairly normal speller and two unnatural spellers! My two unnatural spellers spelled completely phonetically and, therefore, incorrectly. My oldest non-natural speller is now 14 and really turned a corner around 11 with 1) consistent spelling practice using Spelling Power's 10-step method; 2) lots and lots of reading; and 3) spelling awareness -- making her look at the word and correct within her writing. For my 8-yr-old unnatural speller, I've been very happy with Sequential Spelling. I think the word patterns help the child to imprint the spelling in their visual memory. And that's the key to spelling really. HTH, Lisa
  5. I have a dd who is officially registered as an 8th grader this year because of a summer birthday, but many of her classes will count for high school. Here is her current year: Bible: Old Testament, using primarily Greenleaf Guide to the OT; devotional material from church; memory work Math: Saxon Alg. II Science: Apologia Physical Science (with 7th grade ds); Science Roots (prep for biology next year) Latin: Latin I through Florida Virtual School English: Ancient lit list; Vocabulary for Enjoyment (Amsco); Calvert Spelling; IEW SWI-C and CC; Shakespeare Class Logic: Intro to Logic, Nance and Wilson History: Ancient history using primarily Speilvogel Health: Total Health Debate: NCFCA Debate Team and class That's pretty much all of her academic work. She has some separate reading that doesn't correlate with ancient history and various extracurricular activities. HTH, Lisa
  6. Hey all! PHP: Thanks so much for the time and effort you all put into these boards. I remember the *excitement* when we clicked on several years ago with new changes and now . . . ! I really like that everyone must register to post. No more late night troll melodramas. :o) Lisa
