  1. You could put it in with auto-increment in 3 parts. Homeschool Tracker -> Teacher -> Lesson Plans -> Choose your lesson plan from the drop down box Then Add -> enter your info but leave the Page/Lessn/Chap empty and click Copy at the bottom -> Tick Auto-Increment Page/Lesson/Chapter New box pops up -> choose 3 on Number of Parts -> then setup each section as you wish For example I would: First Part: Lesson 1 (add in how ever many lessons there are in the program) Second Part: Week 1 (add in how ever many weeks you think you'll take per lesson - so if a lesson takes two weeks, you'll put in start at 1 end at 2) Third Part: Day 1 (add in how ever many days you want - so five days would be start at 1 end at 5) Then click on OK On the next box, click Begin Copy. That should do it. But you could play with it until you get a combination you like best. I'm always deleting and adding until I like it.
  2. I wouldn't try the Well Planned Day yet. It may be nice once it's ready but it's nowhere near ready, imo. I think you have a few options. One that I really liked is the Charlotte Mason Organizer. It automatically moves incompleted items to the next day so you don't have to do anything but you do need to mark them completed otherwise you won't see the next lesson come up. The downside with this program, for you, is that you can't see a week at a time. I'm personally sold on HST either Online or Plus. I go back and forth between each one and can't decide exactly which one I like the most. Just when I lean one way, I lean over to the other. Currently I'm leaning towards Plus. It would do everything you want plus more if you ever want it in the future (so would Online). Scholaric might work for you too but for some reason it didn't click for me. Your mileage may vary. If you have any specific questions, let us know and I'm sure someone here has the answer. :)
  3. They have it through HomeschoolBuyersco-op.org. I don't think it's any less expensive, but it has free shipping. I've never seen them on sale before by the company. Good luck,
  4. Whew!! I thought I'd have to talk to dh about curriculum all night..... and he just loves talking about that.....
  5. I'll be the lone voice of dissent. I've used both MM and RS and hands down, RS is my favorite. I've also tried Saxon, Horizons, Rod & Staff, MathUSee, and Singapore. We now use CLE. RS gave my kids such a great foundation and I'm actually kicking myself for not having stuck through - we quit during Level D. We didn't actually use every.single.manipulative all.the.time but we used them alot. It held my hand when I needed it with the scripted lessons. I can't wait to use it again when my 20mos. old gets there. It's one of the only curriculums I've kept for him - that and FIAR. Good luck,
  6. I can only add that both of my children did not like the D'Aulaire book even though we love many of their other books. Maybe it's just the Norse Myths themselves.... Good luck,
  7. Now I'm wondering if I should go in and purposefully scramble up the books order. But that would be too much work too. So I'll just keep it as I have it - read the next thing and not worry if it's not exact. Thanks for everyone's replies. It's always nice to have other opinions when your not sure of something.
  8. Their facebook page usually has updates. They expect their new project to be released in a few weeks. And next they are working on Renaissance and Reformation. No ancients. :( But I'm still looking forward to it. :) I absolutely love their products.
  9. We had a thread about this recently on the K-8 board and I wrote a WAY too long reply but maybe it will help. I started out thinking I'd like plus better but ended up liking Online more. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/showthread.php?t=412114
  10. Well, one of the things I was wondering about was lining up MOH with SoTW. I know they line up differently and I'm not sure if I should worry about correlating them or not. I hate jumping around in any book but since these are so different, I'm not sure what to do. Any opinions?
  11. I'm putting together my own history curriculum with several different books: MOH, Augustus Caesar's World, Story of the Greeks, Story of the Romans, and other books. I can go through all and figure out what pages correlate with each other book but is it worth the time? Or is it fine to just spread out the reading as I'd like, keeping it within the same time period but not trying to make sure that each book is covering the exact same or similar subjects? Thanks,
  12. Really? I hadn't realized there was any research in MOH. Can you give me some examples and would 7th be too early for the research parts? Is that just for high school? Am I right in thinking you've used it for high school? I've considered it before but I usually choose secular items though I'm not opposed to some religion. I wasn't sure if this would be "too much" for us. Is it easy to skip over any parts? Thank you,
  13. Ok, this is REALLY long - longer than I had planned but I was typing it up as I went along. I was going to make it a blog post (of course it would be more helpful to have a blog to do that... hehe), but perhaps it would be better here anyway. I've decided to offer my own comparison of the Homeschool Tracker Online version vs. the Plus version. I couldn't find an actual comparison of the two quite like this and I wish I could have read one as it may have helped. I HIGHLY recommend to anyone to get the 30 day trial version of Plus and buy a month of Online and compare. Take it one step at a time and for each version: Add students, add chores, etc. and see which you prefer. I've been drawn to several different planners, however, they were narrowed down to these two options. I've looked at Charlotte Mason Organizer (one of my favorites but not enough "extras"), Scholaric (again, not enough "extras" though I like it for it's simplicity and nice clean layout), Edutrack (doesn't seem like it's been updated), Skedtrack (the ads drove me crazy for some reason), Well Planned Day Planner Online (beautiful looking but I doubt it will have all the features I'd like even when it is finished), and others I've forgotten about. When comparing the two, I find that I have many reason for both liking and disliking each version and sometimes they conflict with each other. A hybrid of the two would be fantastic but from what I've read in their forum that won't be happening. I really like the online version so that I can access anytime, anywhere, from any device. My children can also login (though I doubt they will). On the other hand, I dislike that it can be slower (based on their server speed and how many people are online planning at the same time) and I have to trust that they make continuous backups of their site and database, otherwise ALL of my planning is lost. And let's face it, for both versions, it takes alot of time to plan and enter all of this information. So do you trust yourself more to make backups or do you trust the company more? So step by step, this is how I've approached the setup to both Online and Plus. Of course, it doesn't have to be done this way. After receiving my logins and download, I entered my personal information about our school, our school years/terms and entered my students. Both area easily done though I really like the student area of the Online version. It's a nice "dashboard" look and I like how it shows the grade levels. On each student's dashboard, you can view what their grade levels will be all the way through graduation. I only have three children, but it seems my last brain cells left when the third was born so I appreciate being able to see this. You can see this in the Plus version but it takes more digging to find the feature. Now one thing I've missed in Online (and I may have missed it somewhere - they might want to think about that as I'm sure it could happens to others also) is the days off/holidays/vacations feature. This is very easy when setting up your school year in Plus using the School Year Calculator. I can't find it anywhere on Online. So I'm not sure what I'm going to do with vacations/holidays/etc. yet. *** Well this drove me crazy so I stopped and did some research. I finally found my answer in their forum (which is great and so is their support no matter which product you ultimately choose). In order to give a day off in the Online version, you go to Agenda, click Add and choose Day Off. You have to do this one by one unless it's a week or days in a row. This is probably just a personal preference or whichever one you get used to kind of option. At first I thought Plus had a better score on this, but now that I can see how its done in Online, it's a tie. Second, I decided to try something easy - adding chores. I thought (after trying to add assignments and lesson plans and getting frustrated) that maybe doing something easier would help me "get" the programs better. It worked. Chores Adding chores is similar in both programs. You go to the chores page and add all the chores you'll be assigning. Then you add them to the days they should be done on. For some reason, it feels slower and bit clunkier to do it in the online version and if you are adding alot, say a daily chore for the next 4 months, it definitely takes it a minute or two to get added. You can then see the chores on your daily task list report both in the online and plus versions. In plus, you can also see the chores under the Agenda report. Also, in plus, it seems harder to add a monthly chore whereas in online, it's quite easy. Appointments I've added some appointments also and they are done just like Chores in both versions. Easy. Library Both are very easy to add to and fairly self-explanatory. Both have the nice feature of adding the ISBN and it will fill in all the rest of the information for you. One other thing I wish the Online version would have is is a field to mention the location of the book. For example, we use alot of online books and we use our Kindles alot. It would be nice for me to have a field where I could say, this is a Kindle book, this is an online book at this link, etc. The Plus version does have this. I've worked my way around this by putting Kindle or Online Book in the "Type" field which actually works quite nicely as I can sort it that way too by using the Add Grouping filter. :) Subject Courses So I'm slowly working my way towards assigning assignments or making lesson plans. :) Adding subjects and courses is very easy in both programs. One thing in Online that I find annoying is that if I added a course and want to delete it, if it's used anywhere it won't let you. That's ok, but it doesn't give a link so you can see where it was used - which would be nice, imo. Lesson Plans Lessons Plans are much easier to add on Online IMO. Actually this is where I stop even though I was going to go through it step by step. I came into this thinking I would ultimately choose the Plus version and I am surprised to find that I LOVE the Online version. Besides the Journal and some extra report options, it really has all the same features or easy work-arounds. I stopped entering information into the Plus version and just continued with the Online. I'm sure they'll keep adding features to the Online version as well and I've already got a list of feature requests to send to them. Nothing which has deterred me from using the program though. I still feel a pull sometimes toward the Plus version but I can't use both..... ;) So I happily used it today for the first time. I had entered all of the Lesson Plans, added them to the Agenda, printed it off, taught my children how to login and voila, we're off and running.
  14. Kristy, Do you ever get tired of the format? Isn't it the same fill in sheets each time? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding.
  15. My daughter, 7th grade, loves to research. I'm thinking I should incorporate that into our curriculum but I'm not sure what's out there besides Trisms. I've looked at Trisms and it may work, but it's very expensive. I'd love to know if anyone has some other ideas for me on what to use. We are mostly CM and we were going to use HUFI Year 6 this fall. Thanks,
  16. I looked at Scholaric but it just didn't have as much as I wanted. I like HST+ the best but the learning curve is steep. HSTonline is better as far as a learning curve but it doesn't seem to have as much as HST+. They'll be working on updates for it the most though - they are pretty much finished with HST+ as it is. I imagine HSTonline will get changes and updates for quite a while. One of my absolute favorite features of any planner I've looked at is the Charlotte Mason Organizer where if you don't mark it as completed that day, it just automatically bumps it to the next day. I don't have to reschedule it or all the rest I might have entered. I even considered using it and HST+. I would use CMO for each daily to-do list and then enter into the completed assignments in HST+ as they are completed. This seems silly though and expensive. Oh well, I'll figure it out and report back. :)
  17. Mine was just shy of 30 days, so I can't offer any advice there. :( Of course, my opinion is that they should most definitely offer a refund considering the circumstances. Let us know if you do. I'm now trying to decide between HST+ and HSTonline (I have both at the moment and I'm comparing).
  18. This is who I contacted and she replied that she had refunded my payment and she cancelled me out of the system. Nothing in my bank account yet but I am assuming it may take a few days. She may be overwhelmed with requests right now too considering how many are upset. Good luck,
  19. I think it *may* be better later, but I just wouldn't waste time nor money on it right now. Wait until they get it actually working and tweak it, etc., then try it out.
  20. I've cancelled too. It just doesn't look like this will have the features I need even when it is finished. I agree with others, this isn't beta testing. I'm just glad I can get some of my money back. So disappointing...
  21. I have done both. If I'm doing it along with the same history curriculum, then I put it under History. If it is a separate curriculum, I put it under its own heading called Geography.
  22. I never thought I'd get HST+ and was ready to quit but then it all started coming together for me, after about 2 weeks. Hopefully it will do the same for you. I think its a personal choice but I put literature under LA.
  23. :iagree: I'll be cancelling within my 30 day time frame if this release isn't worth it.
  24. Ooops, I forgot to talk about the original post. I've decided to change things up here quite a bit. I'm changing how I plan things (which has always been pretty much non-existent in the past) by using an online or software planner. I haven't decided which one yet, but most likely HST+ and perhaps Charlotte Mason Organizer. I need to be held accountable as much as my kids do. Most of the time, I never even know how much is left of any particular subject. I want to see the big picture now and I'm hoping planning will help that. I'm also changing curriculum. I've always leaned towards Charlotte Mason but this year we really are pretty much going all out CM. I thought about my goals for the kids and one quote really stands out to me from CM - "The question is not,--how much does the youth know? when he has finished his education--but how much does he care?" I want my kids to "care".
