  1. They're gorgeous! Congratulations! My girls would be so jealous. I think I won't tell them.

Your chickens are hysterical. So is your turtle-loving dog. I have you bookmarked - can't wait to read more of your farming adventures!

Thanks! We try to make things interesting around here. lol.

  2. She seems amazing, beautiful and a precious additon to this earth. May I also say that you sound just as lovely? She is just as lucky to have you.

I pray for peace and comfort for both of you.

Three weeks ago a dear friend found out she had a malignant brain tumor. Yesterday I learned she's chosen to forgo treatment (I think her chances of recovery were slight) and is hoping to live to see this Christmas.

She's 62. A retired school teacher and fearless traveler. She never has an ill word to say about anyone and is modest about her skills and talents to an extreme. She talks to my kids as if the chance to have a conversation with them was a gift and was always extremely supportive of our homeschooling. She is a fragile, light 1st soprano and she sang with me once, on a drive out of town, which was remarkable considering how shy the two of us are about our voices. Her clothes are always impeccable. Always casual but fitting perfectly in gorgeous colours and patterns. Her house is an oasis. Everything in it's place and everything, right down to the utensils, beautifully designed. She isn't religious but she sees beauty and the divine in absolutely everything. She wanted to go on a tour in Egypt this fall and traveled through Portugal last spring despite a wicked toothache. She's a quiet Anne of Green Gables sort of woman who can be enchanted by the patterns of frost on a window.

I just want to say how much this sucks. That I wish it wasn't her, that it wasn't affecting her in such cruel ways, that I wish I could find a place to just go and have a great big cry instead of just being weepy half the time. That I wish you all knew her and know how wonderful a person she really is.

I love her. I wish it wasn't her.

    Thank you for reading this.

  3. Read over a post you wrote previously and cringe? At the time the post made perfect sense and you know what was meant but then later, you re-read it and realize how it would sound from different perspectives? Especially if someone took it the wrong way.

I am guilty of this a lot. I type and click send and then my brain catches up and goes...Doh. That was stupid.

I think you can tell so much from a person when you are actually talking to them. You can get what they mean and how they feel. That it is so hard to do on the internet.

I think we need an audio function. It would clear up so much.

So, until that is available I am going to sit on my hands for one minute before I click send. Maybe that will help keep my foot out of my mouth.

  4. Respectfully, I disagree with the poster you mentioned that did not believe Satan has access to our thoughts. I think our thoughts and mindset are the biggest weapons he uses against us. He has direct access and starts manipulating us as children, setting up thought patters that are ultimately meant to destroy our faith, hope and joy.

If you bear with me, I 'll give you a few examples of why I think this.

Proverbs 23:7: For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Another way to think about this is that as a man thinks in his heart, so does he become.

Our actions are a direct result of our thoughts.

    2 Corinthians 10:4,5

For the weapons of our warfare are not physical (weapons of flesh and blood) but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds, inasmuch as we refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the true knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ. (the Messiah, the Anointed One.

This passage indicates that we must know the Word of God well enough to be able to compare what is in our mind with what is in the mind of God; any thought that attempts to exalt itself above the Word of God we are to cast down.

The Amplified Bible translation of this verse says that the devil argues with us; he offers us theories and reasonings. All of this activity goes on in the mind.

The "weapon" we use to combat these attacks is the bible. Comparing your thoughts, actions and feelings with that of The Word. If it does not measure up to God's word, we are to discount it, throw it out and change our way of thinking.

So, where do negative thoughts and mistruths come from? The father of all lies. (John 8:44)

For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood, but against the despotisms, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly sphere.

    Ephesians 6:12

The battle is in our minds.

You may want to check out the book; Battlefield of the mind by Joyce Meyer. It goes into all of these topics in great detail. I have found it to be refreshing and comforting.

  5. Cute! Thanks for sharing.

I wrote this for myself as a reminder for when my finger gets itchy on the purchase button of those flashy, pretty, new, amazing, gotta have it curriculum websites. I thought maybe some of you might get a kick out of it and maybe even be able to tape it on your computer screen right over the spot where the "put in shopping cart" buttons are. LOL Stay strong ladies\gents. It was fun to write, hope you enjoy.

'Twas 10 minutes to midnight and all through the house not a creature was stirring except for me and my mouse.

The curriculum websites were all bookmarked and filed, while I had visions of great books to my ceiling being piled.

And me with my finger poised to click on the "buy", a little voice in my head said "Show some restraint - oh, please try!"

"Go away," I said. "I don't want a fight. I'll get all free shipping if I purchase tonight!"

"It's not fair" I cried out, "they all look so good." but the voice in my head said, "What if you could? Do you think your children would know what to do? They don't need more books, they just need more of you!"

I pondered on this - what was that voice trying to say? Did it not realize what a deal I could get on e-bay? I thought and pondered and wondered some more, then slowly my eyes drifted to the books on the floor.

3 writing, 3 phonics, 4 grammar and more, all sitting there unused except to prop open the door. I remember the hours spent scouring the sites and the money I spent would give Bill Gates a fright.

"Come away from the computer." My children would request. "I can't," I would say, "until I've found you the best." "But we don't want something different or new, we want you to teach us like you always used to."

I remember those days when we had just started out. "I will teach them myself!" I'd announced with a shout. And teach them I did with good books I'd picked and they learned and we laughed and it all somehow clicked.

So there I sat in the dark about to purchase some more. My children as usual would find it a boor. "No more," I said suddenly clicking the x on the page. "I'll no longer be a prisoner in this curriculum cage."

We already have plenty and we have quite enough, we don't need all the new flashy hyped up school stuff. We'll get back to basics and learning when ready. We'll stop switching our methods and stay calm and steady.

I'll use what I have and I'll create or borrow the rest, after all it's always been I who know my children the best. I know what they like and I know what they need. I'll not be tempted again by curriculum greed.

I'll teach them to honor the One from above. I'll teach them to laugh and to live and to love. Then I'll teach them the things that will make their minds grow and the things out of books that all kids ought to know.

I'll teach them that learning goes on everyday but not just in books but in how they live and they play. If when they are grown they remember one thing I've said, I want them to hear "Knowledge is power." from the voice in their heads.

  6. I added 3 scoops of oxyclean and used ivory soap instead of Naptha. That made a considerable difference. I have also increased the amount of soap to 1/2 bar per recipe. Vinegar is an "okay" softner that reduces hard water and build up. I still use softner but will add a little vinegar for a boost.

I bleach all my whites, so dingyness has not been an issue for me.

Overall, the home-made detergent does the job. I will sometimes use purex if I run out or don't feel like making a batch.
