  1. Both sides have very convincing arguments, but I have to say that the idea of having our own just sounds appealing. I usually dread the hassle of packing everything up to go do something, so the idea of just opening the door sounds great. I think it would encourage lots of great family time. Plus we will have teenagers soon enough and I love the idea of the teens hanging out at our house.

We don't want to pay to install one though, so looking for a house with a pool really limits the options. Plus I guess it could potentially make resale more difficult

  2. This is going to be a tough decision! We would be living in the Atlanta area, so i am thinking the season is pretty long right? And our youngest would be nearly 8, so not a lot of small kids around. Plus I think I would prefer to live outside of town with a little bit of land, so there wouldn't be a lot of neighbors trying to climb in!

But some of you so clearly hate it and some love it a ton, and I guess the only way to know for ourselves is to try it! But what a horrible mistake if we end up to be in the hating it camp.

  3. I can't give you a lot of answers about the actual school/curriculum part, but I do understand the new culture aspect. I started homeschooling about a year ago, right after a move to South America. I think probably ANYTHING you got done in your first year in a new culture is amazing. Please don't be too hard on yourself, as this adjustment is huge. Take your time and remember the amazing things your kids are learning in Cambodia! Things they could never, ever learn in any book.

Hang in there and give yourself lots of grace. They are little and you have lots of time!

  4. I am looking for some opinions on what to do with my DS6 (will be 7 in a couple weeks). He is currently working on MM3A. We skipped ahead and did the time and money sections, and now just have the multiplication section left. He understands multiplying and does have some of the tables memorized. It seems like this section is just working on further memorization.

Do you recommend continuing on in 3A until he has everything memorized? Or should we move on to 3B while at the same time working on memorization? It just seems like he isn't really learning anything "new" right now and is a little bored with math. He is my mathy kid so I don't want to drag this out for him!

    Thoughts or ideas? thanks!

  5. Hi- This year for science we used/are using BJU 8th grade space science with DVD's. We are on a different school schedule here in the southern hemisphere, so my son will finish this about half way through 7th grade.

I have no idea what to use next! He likes the videos and I like having one less subject that I am needed for. I have the student book for Apologia General Science, but other than that I am not sure what to look at.

It can be secular or Christian.

Anyone have a mostly independent science for 7th or 8th grade that you love?

    thanks!

  6. My husband wouldn't complain about it, but I don't want him to get home late every night because he is sitting in traffic. The kids need their Daddy time! But, he will also have to go to Rome so we need to take that into account at least a little bit. I think it will likely be 1 drive to Rome per week.

So, it sounds like if we want the shortest commute possible that we are really only looking at the southern suburbs? Tyrone, Senoia, Newnan Sharpsburg, PTC, Fayetteville. Any others towards the SW side of town that we should consider?

  7. Thanks for the input Cathie and Paige. PTC is sounding really great. I am excited to come up there and look around, but that won't happen for a few months still.

Does anyone think there are any cities to the Northwest that would be a doable commute, or would they all be really bad to get down to the SW corner of the perimeter? I ask only because my husband will also have to drive up to Rome, GA at least once a week.

    Thanks!

  8. There are several other academic co-ops in the area though (and a hybrid school I keep seeing emails about) if that is what you are looking for.

Also, fyi, Tyrone recently shut their elementary school doors and students are being sent to other towns.

    Hth!

thanks for this! Could you tell me any more about the coops, the hybrid, and why Tyrone doesn't have elementary schools!?

  9. He would be working right outside the SW corner of the perimeter. With that in mind, would you all say live South? Not in Atlanta somewhere? How about West?

I really haven't made any decisions about schooling yet but like to know all the options!

To me it looks like Peachtree is much more expensive for housing than the surrounding areas.

  10. I did read about the school issues in DeKalb county and of course the issues with the Atlanta school district. I expect we may be in this house for quite a while so super fast resale is not an issue (although we said that with the last house too!)

Thanks for the input on Peachtree City! I do really like what I have heard of it. What do you think of the towns around that general area? We would be moving back from South America and I really don't want to be in an area that is all about keeping up with the Jones, if that makes any sense!

Do you think the extra cost of living in PTC is worth it, even if we don't use the schools?

  11. We may be moving to the Atlanta area in the next year. My husband would be working in the SW corner of Atlanta, right at the edge of the perimeter. I don't know for sure if we will be homeschooling all our children or not, but either way I would like to live in an area with good schools for resale purposes.

Do you all have any suggestions on areas or cities to live in?

I have looked at Peachtree City, Fayetteville, Newnan, and Tyrone. Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions for me!? Also, any other cities or areas that you like that would be easily accessible to work? I don't want my husband to have a super long commute and I have heard the traffic is pretty bad!

    Thanks so much!

  12. I have 3 kids and have done a little bit of traditional scrapbooking. I have tons of paper, stickers, embellishments, etc., but I don't ever get anything done! I am thinking of switching over to PL or something else more simple. Do any of you use any other supplies to go along with PL? I really have so much that i have collected, but I am tempted to sell or donate it all and start fresh.

    A couple questions though,

Could I use the pages I already have done and add them in somehow or would that just look odd?

Can you use more than one kit at a time? I like a lot of them and think I might get tired of using the same one over and over.

My kids are almost 12, 10, and 7. None of them have a finished album. Where and how do I start? Just start when they were babies and go from there?

Last, can you use the kits in any 12x12 album? I already have a bunch of empty Creative Memories albums that I really should use!

Thanks!! I love the look of this and think, just maybe, that I could actually get it done! :)

  13. The clinical rotations are probably the same as they were when I got my MPT. You are assigned a clinical instructor and you start out watching them evaluate and treat patients, and then gradually move into doing the work yourself while they observe. If you have a good instructor they should not be using you as slave labor! My sister has a DPT, her program was 3 years but otherwise very similar and the pay is the same.

I have worked in home health, rehab, pediatrics, and hospital settings. I have worked from 2 days a week up to full time, and it has been an excellent job to have and be a mom due to the great flexibility.

    Hope that helps!

  14. What is really odd to me is that his paper is perfectly in place. Nice and straight, and right in front of him. It just looks so strange to me, but whenever i try to correct him he says he can't write that way!

I think I will try the ball trick and also put him at a lower table when he writes.

    thanks everyone!

  15. Thanks Ellie. He keeps the paper in the proper position. When I write, my elbow is much closer to my body, but when he writes his elbow is sticking out. It reminds me of how a lot of lefties write, except that he is right handed! I am also wondering if part of the problem could be that his chair isn't tall enough.
