  1. This isn't actually for me because we just go to the library, but a friend of mine will be visiting from out of the country and wants to bring back books for her daughter, aged 9. She is an above grade level reader and my friend is looking for good, longer, chapter books to bring back home to her. She is open to Christian or not.

    Any suggestions for her?

    Thanks.

  2. We did this when coming from Peru to the US. We used a company in Peru that came to our house. We showed them what we wanted to pack and they gave us a quote. They then came back, packed it, stored it for us for a month and then shipped it to the US. They were the best packers we have ever had! But I agree, this is not an inexpensive procedure!

  3. I think they are comfortable for short bits of walking, but would never wear them if I would be on my feet all day because there is little arch support and even the bottom of my foot felt sore from the thinner sole. I still like them though!

  4. My daughter had a Lands End suit this year that held up worse than her one from Target. It faded and the material actually shredded away from the lining. So, I would also be interested to hear more recommendations. Although we swim nearly every day in the summer so I am not sure any suit can hold up to that!

  5. Yet another topic where there is such conflicting information out there. We just came back from the dentist and I did go ahead and have them do the treatment because they haven't had it in 2 years. Their dentist in South America just didn't use it. All 3 had cavities today, which drives me crazy because I feel responsible.

Anybody know what an expected charge is for a filling for a child?

    Thanks for all the input!

  6. I was homeschooling in Peru until January. It was no problem. We has visas and Peru did not ever ask about how our kids were being educated. It was sometimes hard to get the books we needed due to weight and also hard not to have a library. Other than that, no problem. Plus we had some amazing field trips! :)

  7. Also, I do think I would continue some more fun math with him at home, maybe Beast Academy or something. I don't really think Saxon is the best choice for him but since I love the rest of the school I am willing to go with it.

Hmm, just had a thought that maybe he could do math without the school part. I might have to check into that.

  8. His sister actually wouldn't care, she is our most easygoing kid.

We could keep going during the summer, although school starts in just a little over 2 months already! I don't see a big reason to push him ahead too far and just frustrate him, but I don't want to hold him back either!

  9. Some thoughts and suggestions please! My son is 7 and a rising 2nd grader. We will be starting a new hybrid school this fall where they go to class 1 day per week and then work on projects and assignments the rest of the week at home with me.

It is a classical school that uses Saxon Math. They use Saxon books that I haven't seen before, not the ones that say 5/4 or 6/5. His would be called Intermediate 4 or 5. My son took the placement test and placed into 5th grade math. They prefer to put him into the 4th grade class due to his age. He is 7 and pretty wiggly and this will be his first time in a school setting other than 2 months in Kindergarten. He is good at math but does not have times tables memorized and hasn't yet learned long division.

What does everyone think? Go with 4th or 5th?? If it matters at all, his older sister is in 5th grade. Oh, and we have used Math Mammoth up to this point. He is about in the middle of the 4th grade books.

    Thanks!

  10. We just moved back from overseas and have to basically start over in the kitchen (and mostly the rest of the house). I just want solid white, round dishes. I would need plates and bowls mostly, and don't care so much about matching mugs.

I originally thought I would get Corelle because it seems to last forever, but wondered if there is anything that is maybe a step up from that but that is still very durable?

I don't really want very heavy stoneware or anything that chips easily. My kids will be loading and unloading the dishwasher so it needs to be durable!

    Thanks for any recommendations!!
