  1. When my son was in 1st, we didn't do all the CWP, but did the entire IP. In 2nd grade, we completed most of the CWP (some were redundant) and are half a year behind on IP. In 3rd, we will work through the CWP3 and start IP 2B. HTH.
  2. Merry, Thank you so much for your insight. It really helped me see the big picture. My issue is with the sequence and the difficulty in reading outside readers. DD has enjoyed the AAR activities and it is still challenging for her. We love AAS and I'm happy to hear AAR3 will be out in September. We will stick with it! Thank you other moms who have responded. I knew I could count on this forum for help!
  3. I began using AAR1 with my 5.5 dd last August, we are currently 3/4 of the way through AAR2 and I feel like my dd is not as advanced in reading as I think she should be. Am I just going too slowly or is the program slow? We have only covered the 'ee' vowel digraph and have yet to get to some consonant digraphs and silent letters. What has your experience been with the program? The other issue is what to do after AAR2 since AAR3 isn't due out until late 2013. I appreciate your input.
  4. Dylan, thanks for serving our country and kudos to your wife for holding down the fort with all those babies. I will remember her when I'm complaining about my husband being 15 minutes late from work. Thanks for starting this thread....it's going on my hubby's assigned reading list  You have received lots of wise counsel; you came to the right place. God bless you and your family.
  5. Recently, I read a review about Home Art Studio on the 1+1+1=1 blog and checked out some clips at http://www.officialhomeartstudio.com and liked what I saw. I ordered the Kindergarten DVD yesterday and will begin using it in June. Sorry I don't have experience with it, but thought I'd at least let you know about it.
  6. THank you for all your advice! I knew I could count on you to inform me. I will check out the book from the library that someone suggested. I know my children will enjoy it.
  7. If he's there in the morning, do we feed him? The kids are wanting to pet it but haven't let them. We only found it this evening. It looks just like Bambi...so adorable.
  8. Ours arrived today and we love them! It is 9pm and my daughter can't stop working on her new books....she is so excited about them. She thinks Capt. Kraken is very funny.
  9. Guinea pigs here as well! DD8 just saw the sample pages and thought they were so cool! She's doing Abeka in private school and got all the problems right in 3a but has no idea about geometry, so I think BA will be great for her to do during the summer before I begin HSing her. Very exciting!
  10. I am a bit overwhelmed with Math and LA curriculum decisions I need to make for my soon to be HSed 4th grader. She needs more challenging work since she does not put effort into her work and does very well. WWYD if your child had used Abeka since 1st grade in all subjects except grammar and writing which was Shurley but do not want to continue with Abeka or Shurley? For Math, I am leaning towards TT. I'd love to teach her the Singapore method since my DS6 can solve two digit problems faster than she can, but not sure about back tracking in math. Thoughts? Grammar- FLL4 is my first choice but not sure if I should just stick with Shurley or do R&S. Thoughts? Spelling-she is a good speller. Would AAS5 be good or something else? Writing- so many choices here I am lost. DD just started learning to write paragraphs. I'm leaning towards IEW. Thank you for taking time to read this. I appreciate any input. Blessings,
  11. This is our first year in TOG. We're in the last ten week of Year 2 and are part of a co-op with around 20 families. My children are in LG and UG. We are sticking with it for Year 3 and beyond. Don't have a blog....not sure we're that interesting
  12. This is it for me as well. I get most of my questions answered here and some questions I never thought I had also get answered :tongue_smilie:
  13. I am using AAR Level 1 with my soon to be 5 year old and it's going well, albeit slower than I'd like, but I am on her time schedulfood this adventure. In addition to reading the suggested words, I have my daughter write the sounds she hears in the words on the white board and this is more exciting to her than just reading the words on paper. I also have her use the magnetic tiles to spell the words. We spend about 10 minutes on reading per day. Each lesson takes us about a week to complete depending on how much actual reading is involved in that lesson. HTH.
  14. My DD6 has memorized a lot since August and it has been wonderful to see how easy it is for him. So far he's memorized the Nicene Creed, Psalm 27, all the poems in FLL/1, adress, phone numbers(cell and home), the Beatitides, many Classical Conversation cards for history, science, geography, Bible verses.
