I'm pretty sure this was discussed before (not positively) but the name is so general I can't find it in a search
-
I do not, though there are some really great websites out there for ancients! Our favorites were virtual mummification with gross sound effects :p http://oi.uchicago.edu/OI/MUS/ED/mummy.html

I've updated with some more resources that I saw and remembered. Definitely check out the Guest Hollow timeline which marries MOH, STOW, books, movies, etc.
ETA we're going on vacation for a week but please feel free to add to this list and I will incorporate them when I return.

Cool I will add this to my Middle Ages thread!

The more I look at the samples, the more I love it. It looks like it brings in some lit analysis, and I definitely like the discussion hand-holding. My biggest issue is that I have rising 4th and 5th grader. I suppose I could use it with both kids and just re-evaluate my writing plan in the spring. I Was going to finish wwe2 and move into wwe3 with dd this year. For ds I was going to finish Wwe3 and move into WWS later in the year. Would using this for both be a major cop out? I think it would help us all grow in our writing abilities. Then when CAP releases the next level, I could decide if it is rigorous enough or whether I should move to WWS with ds next year. Any advice?
I could also supplement with some essay writing instruction from our Hake program and also plan on TWTM writing with history.

Just a bump!

Thanks so much! I did get a Hobbit copywork book which would be fun to use along with dictation and memorizing the poems would be fun. I have an advanced kindle version of the Hobit which includes Tolkein's readings of the poems as sound files :)

I also posted in a similar thread on Logic but we are doing
LA - R&S spelling 6, hake grammar 6 over the next 2 years, WWE, then WWS second semester. Several VP lit guides and Caesars English
Science BJU science5 without DVDs
Math mammoth 5 and hopefully well into 6 plus LOF Fridays
Moh2 with HITW passport to Middle Ages, and some TWTM history writing. Several lit suggestions from TWTM
Lively Latin BB1
Mind benders and logic liftoff

I have some questions for you guys!
I am not (yet) a Tolkein fan because I haven't read it! (adding it to my near term to do list).
We love fantasy (Narnia, Harry Potter) so I am pretty sure we will love these.
We also love jumping in with both feet! In addition, we are going to New Zealand in February and are studdying the Middle Ages this year. Therefore, I really need to put together engaging plans to study The Hobbit before we go. While I'm tempted to pick up a bunch of lit guides, I'm thinking my kids may love the literature less if I make them do too much writing and thinking LOL.
I will look into the CD.
Does anyone have a good suggestion for engaging 9 and 11 year olds with The Hobbit? I found (through a TWTM search) this guide which I think I will use to encourage thinking without having to write ;) http://www.amazon.com/Reader-Educator-Guide-Hobbit-ebook/dp/B008VIWRDG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1349357142&sr=8-1&keywords=reader+and+educator+guide+to+the+hobbit+and+the+lord+of+the+rings
If you were going to NZ, what Hobbit related activities would you do?
-
Saddlemama thanks! I used such lists to find the websites linked above. Another site I used was Usborne links from the medieval book.

I posted a few weeks ago about a possible trip to Australia in January. Our Aussie friends clued me into the intense heat and crowds at that time of year so we have altered our plans. We now intend to spend around 3 weeks in NZ in February.
I was hoping that our Kiwi friends and other friends who have traveled to NZ could help me as we try to narrow down where we want to go.
I realize 3 weeks isn't enough to really span both islands. We can't decide where to fly into and which island to focus on!
I long to see the mountainous beaches (like what we saw in Narnia movies). I understand that those areas are in the south island? We will most likely find apartments/farmstays/B&B type locations. I am a knitter, so I think staying in a beautiful farmstay with rolling hills of sheep pasture would be awesome! My son adores seals so we definitely want to see seals and also penguins/dolphins/etc. Both kids love animals.
We haven't read Tolkien, but I understand that Hobbiton might be fun for the kids. We could read The Hobbit before going. This is towards the North, however and I really wanted to see the South! Any suggestions there?
Thanks so much for helping me!

I love the page layout. I wish they had a less expensive PDF version and that the next level would be available soon!
-
When you get TWTM, you really only need to read from the beginning through the grammar stage portion at first. You can read the rest (logic, rhetoric) after you have your plans in place and are ready for a glimpse of the bigger picture and what the end goal is. SOTW, FLL and WWE are a good place to start.
I never really knew what " the box" is. I started with sonlight but within a month (having just read TWTM), I ditched it for the 4 year & classical model.

Thank you Photogal and Ravin,
Ravin, I found my local group and see there are quite a few events lined up in my state!
Photogal, I added Satori Smile's chronological "You wouldn't want" book list

I have been going through multiple resource lists to put in my Year 2 plans for this year. I haven't necessarily used them, but the resources that look the most engaging for my kids. I should add that I am using the typical WTM suggested book lists but these are resources in addition to books!
FYI my resources follow MOH2 and therefore my list covers from AD30ish to 1430 Gutenberg printing press.
Interested in adding in your favorites? I would love to compile a big resource list that would include other resources in this one list!!! Please help! Have a fun Robin Hood website or Illuminations craft? Reply and I can add it. Thank you! These are great resources

I agree with Farrar - they have them but they aren't usually too challenging.
-
Yes. In fact I just bought their qma student pages from them via download. They look fun!
Has anyone used this before?
