  1. Cool! Congratulations to your dd, and good job to you, Mama, for doing the legwork!
  2. It must be the humidity and water combo. I live in Arizona where the humidity hovers at about 7%, and our water is very hard, as in we have to replace our faucets every few years because of the mineral build-up. Between the water and the weather, my hair is dry and flat--blah. However, when I went to see my in-laws in Florida this summer, my hair was amazing! It was curly and soft, even at the beach! Seriously, I looked like a commercial. Then we came home to reality. Flat and dry. :glare:
  3. I wouldn't use that sitter again. She obviously didn't want the job badly enough. A responsible person would not call in to work because they weren't on their "A game". There's lots of days that one is on her "B game" or even "D game" and carries on with life nonetheless. Too bad I can't refuse to parent my kids when I don't get a full night's sleep. :)
  4. I hadn't thought of that. Would there be a fever involved, even low-grade? After I posted this thread I started thinking about anxiety, and how that may be a cause. Could it be cyclical in nature, related to cognitive development or intellectual growth in some way?
  5. Do you find that your kids go through phases where they have lots of stomach aches? The nurse practitioner we see said that it is common for elementary aged kids to have stomach aches, and I'm wondering if she's on to something. DD1 (9) had LOTS of stomach aches when she was about 7 or 8. Now DD2 (7) is complaining of stomach aches every night. I haven't taken DD2 to the doctor about it since it doesn't seem *that* bad, but there are some things I'm going to try: chiropractic adjustment, cut out dairy for a while, have her drink more water. What could cause this at certain ages or certain stages of development?
  6. Hi. I am new here as of today, although I have been a lurker for a while. I have 3 girls, ages 9, 7, and 3 and I stay at home with them. DH and I are both nurses, although he's the only one actually working at getting paid much for it. :) I do care for an elderly friend who has Alzheimer's; she comes to our house one day a week. My kids have been in public school up until now, and they have a few more weeks until we get to kiss public schooling goodbye (for now). Deciding to teach them at home has been a gradual decision, made with much prayer and consideration. Now that we've taken the plunge and decided to do it, I am very excited! The girls and DH are also excited. I just wanted to say hello and say that I'm glad to be here. I look forward to joining in your discussions and getting to know you. Sarah
