Hello :001_smile:, Is anyone using Truth in Science curriculum? I purchased the student steps for grade three, and so far I like how they look, but I've been dragging my feet to add it to the daily lessons. I figured we could use the student steps and forgo the teacher manual. Well Just wanted to see if anyone is using this curriculum or have any opinions about it :bigear: .

One lesson a day is good. My DS does two or three depending on how he feels, my minimum is one a day. We don't use the textbook, he does the lecture and problems on the computer, but the book is good to have if ever he needs more study on a subject or to go back to a lesson for help. I hope you enjoy the program! We are using level 3 and I am so happy I bought it :001_smile:. makes my day go smoother and DS who already enjoyed math, likes it even better!

I have no local support. I think I could attempt to reach out to groups, but I have a two year old and it is hard to do co-ops with him. When we lived in a different state that required an umbrella school, we got to see so many other homeschoolers and even went bowling once together. That was very nice :001_smile:. I feel really lonely most of the time and come online for tips and support. I need to do more to find other like minded people.

I just purchased the MM bundle and I'm trying to load it on my ipad. The download came as a zip file, but when I unzipped it, the pdf is too large for me to email to myself to open on the ipad. I don't know what to do now. I purchased it at kagi if that matters, I got the free MM downlaod from the other website and it came as a PDF and I had no problems getting it on my ipad.

That's what I was thinking of doing but was not sure if I needed to do more at this age. I just want to make sure I'm not missing skills by not using a program.

My son is 8, soon to be 9 in the fall. I am planning his third grade, and I'm wondering what reading program, if any should I use? He does read well, I would say he is on grade level, if not above... have never had him tested. We are not big on workbooks. I'm not sure what I should be doing for reading though? Plan on using HOD loosely as a guide but I did not want to use drawn into the heart of reading program.Any help would be great, I hope I have expressed myself clearly enough :001_smile:. PS. We are working on going 100% Charlotte Mason, that is the school of thought that best lines up with our family.

Thanks! I ended up purchasing the winning with writing, it's a great price and we just need to get started. I'm going to listen to the lecture and check out writng with ease as well. My son has an interest in writng and story telling so I want to get a very good program, but since this is our first structured year and he enjoys work books, I don't want it too challenging and scary!:001_smile:

Can I have some suggestions for writing programs for the 2nd and 3rd grade please? I'm not sure what I am looking for as of yet, I think we are ready to do something formal though. For grammar we are going to be using iether GWG or PLL... but I don't think they are considered writing.

I wish I could say I splurged in any area! I am pretty tight with my spending all around. At one point I was spending a good amount on books, but now we have a nice sized library and I won't be adding any new material until every single book we own has been read at least once if not twice!( We have well over four hundred books!) I am am more geared towards frugal homeschooling and shopping in bulk during sales. I have been considering purchasing a kindle fire for each of my pupils (2). We use many e-resources and apps ( I have an ipad) in our learning, those would be considered splurge luxury items:001_smile:.

Thank you for that link! I found the readers... earliest one is from 1909 does not say it is revised but the cover provided in the PDF says revised. I'm not sure, I'll need to do some more digging. I've never heard of archive.org, looking forward to doing some hanging out over there:001_smile:.

I was wondering if there are free copies of the original readers online in the public domain. I've been doing google searches, but I am just finding revised versions. Figured I'd come and ask for help :001_smile:.

We are doing our first year of HOD ( two levels, LHFHG,BHFHG), I'd be interested in chatting with other HOD moms :grouphug:.

I'm using HOD cirriculum this year, the they use is Singapore. HOD requires only the workbooks, but I went ahead and got the whole package ( textbooks, workbooks, HIG's, extra practice, intensive practice, challlenging word problems) Will I need all these extra workbooks? Has anybody used them all? I figured the teacher giude would give me extra help and if I didn't like HOD I could still continue with the math portion without the HOD Guide. I am preparing to get Singapore 2A/B because I feel like my pupil is going to move very quick through level one and I'm wondering should I purchase everything again or just stick with the main workbooks?

My son is going to be using singapore 1 A/B this year. She likes to be like her brother:001_smile:. I plan on sticking with singapore all the way up the grades. I do want the comfort of a cirriculum. I have a very busy toddler in the mix so mom needs structure to make sure everything gets done and stays on track!

We will be using little hearts for his glory this year but I want a different math program. What is good for K? I don't want to use right start... need something teacher friendly:001_smile:.

I'm not that great in grammar so I feel more comfortable with the manuals. I have some of the free books, but came across this one for dirt cheap. I will check for that vintage thread :001_smile:.

Has anybody used this? What do you think? I was going to buy the teacher guide, but I think I found it online for free, I have to wait till I go home to check it against the actual book though. I would like to use this with the HOD program BLHFHG.

:glare:, their shipping is so high! I have been looking high and low for a used TM to no avail :confused:. I have everything I need expect that. I just can't wrap my head around paying $10 to ship one book. I ordered from multiple companies this week paying no more than $6 to ship multiple books.

Is heart of dakota the only ones carrying the teacher manuals? I have been looking all over to buy beyond little hearts for his glory :confused:.

Thanks for all the replies. There is so much to think about. I am about to fizzle out and just choose something! No really though, I want to make a well thought out choice. My youngest does have some math exposure already. She does word problems, uses little blocks for counting, addition, money, counting on a 100 number chart... Will RS A still be good for her?

We use it :001_smile:. I had it printed and bound at the UPS store for like $12. It is a great book. I use it with both my 4 and 7 year old. I don't have a structured way i use it, we just read over the word lists, if it is a new rule we go over that and begin the list. It can take a day or more depending on how the child cathces on. We use it for review as well. It is the only phonics we have stuck with. No workbooks or other readin programs. My youngest reads three letter shor vowel words by herslef. She also knows some sight words, and has begun to decode larger words on her own. My 7 year old reads above his grade level.

My children had a rabbit. It was a lionhead, which does not get that big. it was a nice little pet, but I had to vaccum up the bedding everyday because rabbits are messy! I also had to change the bedding all the time, since they poop alot too. If we go the pet route again it will be fish only. We do have two hens so they have"pets" but nothing in the house... too much work!
