  1. after hearing all the things that COULD happen in domestic adoption, we chose international. I felt comfort in knowing that my dd couldn't be taken away from me. Now that we have her, I'm deeply pained, and likely will be for the rest of my life, because I know her torment because she'll never see or know her own birth mom. Since she could talk she has expressed she wanted a Chinese mother. She has never accepted me. :crying: THE DAY she was handed to me is when she started the rejection process. I feel so bad for her.

    Oh Denise :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

  2. But what if you're a blog dropout?! I tried, truly.

What I find funny is how many posters can have a ton of posts, and yet I've never noticed them before. For example, I cannot ever recall running into the OP before, but Clarkacademy is familiar to me, and you both have a similar post count.

I have come to the conclusion that most people don't think twice about me. If I never came back here, I dont think a missing persons post would pop up. That's a good thing, because I really shouldn't invest emotionally in an online board. If I thought I mattered here, I would spend way more time and emotional energy on this. I've done that before and it was a bad thing.

    :iagree: This is SO me!!

  3. Well Im not a regular poster, but I am usually a regular lurker. :001_smile: I have a couple blogs that I do not advertise here. Never really thought about doing it... well, wait- I did think about it for half a second but then shot the idea down cuz my main blog is used for advertising one of my businesses. My other blog is too personal to post. I have always wanted to have a blog that shares our homeschooling life but I know from how much I have blogged the blogs (LOL!!) I already have that I just dont have the time. But I am a real person. :001_smile:

  4. Good Sam is worth it....KOA--not so much. The KOA's we stayed at on our cross country trip were expensive and run down. They might be ok for tent camping or staying in a cabin, but not for a full hook up.

I would recommend a couple of resources--

*The Next Exit Book--invaluable when driving the country's interstates. This book tells you what is off every exit and whether or not it is big rig friendly. I

*A campground resource. Good Sam has the Trailer Life Directory in book and DVD form. In fact, I have the 2011 DVD and would send it to you for postage if you'd like--it's only good for PC's and my laptop is a MAC. :)

    *A GOOD Road Atlas.

*GPS--don't completely trust it though---a wrong turn or the scenic route in a motorhome is a lot different than in a car.

Also, make sure you have some sort of AAA type card--either AAA RV Plus or Good Sams. You never know when you are going to break down.

Check out this RV forum site--there is a wealth of information and everyone is very friendly and willing to answer any questions you might have.

eta: to clarify. The cards for campground discounts and roadside assistance are different. For instance, we have Good Sam's campground card, but AAA RV Plus roadside

:iagree::iagree: Definitely do the good sams. AAA can sometimes get you a discount as well. The exit book mentioned is an excellent resource. There was a better one a while ago but it is not longer in print that I know of.

    Have fun!

  5. I have a public middle and high school child. My son's beginning supply list, before school started, cost us $80 from Walmart. Then I had to pay $30 supply fee, $7.50 tech fee, $20 gym uniform, $10 reading fee, $15 spirit fee, $15 computer fee, and $20 FCA fee. FCA was the only optional fee. I also had another $55 worth of supplies to pick up after first day. For daughter, fees directly to school were $65 plus $35 optional club fees, and $20 gym uniform since they change design yearly so you can't reuse them. Her supplies were around $65. DD used her backpack from last year but I had to get DS a new one, $45, since his finally wore out after three years. I tell Dh that it is amazing what a free public school education costs. Oh and we have uniforms that costs me $300 for both.

Oh my gosh!!! That is just freaking insane!!! Free education- yeah right! On the other hand, it was entertaining to read the contribution of $15 for spirit fee... I didnt know they were serving "spirits" at ps??? just kidding. :001_smile:

  6. Hello-

I am probably going to sound pretty ignorant here but I would have to say that I definitely would steer clear of the xbox. I know that the xbox is what they like but my opinion of the xbox is such that it is HIGHLY addictive. My oldest son who is now 19 has had an xbox for almost a couple of years now. I was opposed, but he got a seasonal job and paid for it himself with my dh approval. My brother who is almost 30 also has one. My sons best friend also has an xbox. Anyways- I have never seen people (the people being the three guys I mentioned) so completely addicted to something- aside from drugs and such. I mean, my brother is almost 30, married, with 2 children, and has 2 jobs!!! and my sil has told me about times when he will get off from work at 1am and then start playing the xbox and not realize what time it is until he sees the sun come up! My oldest son has done the same thing. Playing for 6 hours straight one time. I am not a gamer- but I do enjoy the wii which we have for the family to enjoy. I have also heard of stories and then on the news too how people seem to react to the xbox. Its never the wii that I have heard or read about- just the xbox. I know that they love the xbox, but in my opinion, the wii is a much better choice. The wii is also awesome because it gets you off your bum and moving around. :001_smile: These things may be totally based on my own ignorant opinion but its the way I feel and I wanted to share that. Thanks for listening. :001_smile:

  7. I get my hair cut every 4-5 weeks, my nails done every 2 weeks and try to buy nice clothes, though I don't spend a ton on clothing..but I do try to look nice when I leave the house.

Despite what some here might have to say, I am NOT "vain" and I am not selfish..at all.

It takes me 30 minutes to shower and get myself together for the day and they are 30 restful, peaceful minutes very well spent.

Heck, some of my best prayer time is spent in the shower! lol

After seeing the comment that the people here feel the ones who do put more effort into their appearance are vain and selfish.... I dont judge the people at walmart or where ever who are wearing make up and such to say that. Like a pp said- to each their own. Quite frankly, most of the time, I just have too much to worry about than to be concerned about other peoples make up, hair, clothes, etc. Not to say that when I see someone who I think looks nice, I might make a comment to my daughter, something along the lines of "wow, she looks nice" or "that is a cute outfit" or whatever. Not that I have never thought a negative thing about someone elses appearance but I certainly wouldnt say it outloud.

  8. What I would not be okay with is her insulting me or other people if we happened to disagree with her. Also, I'd find it disappointing if she seemed unwilling to change or adjust her perceptions based on new knowledge or information she hadn't considered before.

Maybe Im the only one who thinks this but I feel that by her posting, she is insulting others who chose not to get all gussied up to go to the walmart. Just because you dont wear make up or have a trendy hairstyle or make some kind of super effort while shopping for and then later picking out your clothes for the day doesnt mean you dont care how you look. It just means (with the exception of those who are depressed and lost interest in themselves) that perhaps people just dont have the time to put into it. Yes, even that 10 minutes a day. Or they really cant see using money for that, whether they have the money or not. Or that they just dont want to. Maybe they dont like the way make up feels. Others have written that they are allergic. I mean, I just dont think it is worth worrying about while passing someone in the walmart or grocery store. I can see there maybe being a curiousity there, but I thought her post was judgmental. It might leave someone thinking, "oh- my hair is _______ and not in any sort of style that someone I dont know might find unflattering so there is something wrong with it." Never mind if that woman loves her hair. If the question had been why do some women not wear make up, I could understand. But when she said why do some women have an "unflattering hair cut" or "wear unflattering clothes", it rubbed me the wrong way. Then it wasnt just about why some women prefer not to wear make up, it then became why do some women not take proper care of themselves the way she *feels* they should. I mean really, it is just her opinion of how she feels women should maintain their appearance. Who is she to decide if someones hair style is unflattering if the woman wearing the hairstyle is completely thrilled with it? Maybe these women she is talking about love their clothes, but she finds them unflattering so it makes it wrong for them to be wearing them. And then quite frankly who is she to decide if someone can or can not afford make up? Even if it is only $10 every 6 months? I priced mascara the other day and the cheapest I saw was $1.99 at my walmart.... but Im sure we are all familiar with you get what you pay for. And then, the Maybelline mascara was $9.99!! Who would want to risk buying the cheaper product, and then having some kind of reaction due to the quality of the product? Some women already know they have sensitivity issues so they dont even bother because the mascara they might be able to use would cost more than the $10. I dont know, I just thought the whole thing was offensive because of the way it was worded. Who cares if her haircut is outdated as long as its clean and well kept? Maybe that ill fitting shirt is a favorite shirt that the woman wants to wear that day because she just genuinely loves it?? Thinking about it, I would be one of those women she would find unflattering. I guess though that it doesnt really matter because my kids and husband love me and find me beautiful even without all the make up, the stylish outfit, and updated, flattering hairstyle. And their opinion is what matters- not some strangers who I am probably never going to see again passing me by in the walmart.

  9. :iagree: This is the way I took the OP.

Frumpy and ugly - I had a friend who would buy things and be proud of her purchases. She would get bargains and deals and had a full wardrobe. But what she thought of as cute and stylish, I thought of as butt ugly. I never said anything, but there would be no way I'd be caught dead wearing her clothes. So maybe when one sees what one considers ugly clothes, the wearer may think they are brilliant clothes.

And thats okay right? I mean, its okay for her to have the clothes she likes without being worried about some stranger thinking she doesnt know how to dress herself, isnt it?

My whole take on the OPs question is how can women walk around looking different from what her (the OPs) standards seem to be regarding personal appearance? And the part where she asks why a woman would want an outdated haircut/style is what sealed that for me.

I used to wear tons of make up and had my hair cut regularly- but cut in a short style I liked- not what was in fashion. Now a days- and 7 children later, I hardly ever wear make up and now I am growing my hair out because I want to- not because long hair may or may not be in style. My dh prefers no make up at all. He likes me au naturale. I dont necessarily but I just dont worry about it for a trip to the grocery store or the walmart. I do make sure that I am clean and dont offend anyone with body odor or bad breath, which in my opinion is really what matters, before I leave the house. All that being said though, I *do* do my own nails. My dh likes them and my real nails break so easily and down below the quik so I have started wearing these. I dont like having to pay money for something like that but its only about 10 bucks a month. I do have make up, but like I said, rarely ever wear it. The only foundation I like that doesnt rub off on things like clothes and stuff is bare minerals. I ran out and cant afford to buy more right now. As far as clothes.... Since my short hair and heavy make up days, I have gotten big, but have started losing weight recently due to better diet and exercise. My clothes are all baggy. I have always made sure that my clothes cover the areas that I want covered. I wear baggy shirts because my b00k shelf is pretty full, and I dont like the way tight shirts show my "love handles". I also prefer not to have my circulation cut off at my waist line so most of my pants are a little big I suppose. I dont wear sweats hardly at all. I dont like to have to be thinking about how uncomfortable I am because of my clothes while reading to the kids or whatever. If I continue to lose weight, I am curious if I will wear more form fitting clothes. I dont know. But if I do, it certainly wont be because I am worried about what some stranger thinks of how I look while we pass each other for a few seconds or minutes in the walmart. Just my .02 worth.
