  1. I am both a complainer and a fixer.  I am neither offended or thankful when someone suggests I do something to fix what I'm complaining about.  I'm about as likely to continue complaining as I am to actually do what was suggested.. My most common response is to acknowledge that the fixer is right I should have grabbed my coat and yes I'll know better next time (no I won't I'll completely forget the conversation entirely) my children are exactly the same way.  It seems like we're a bunch of hens going around picking at each other all day.

  2. The downstairs is set at 70 during the day unless DH is home then it's set to 71 or 72.  At night when DH is at work it's set at 69, when he's at home asleep (during the day) I'll kick it up to 70-71 for him.  We heat/cool 2600 sq. feet and our electric (includes ALL fuel for DH's leaf that he drives 100+ miles a week) runs $200-$275 average, is that a lot?

*I adjust according to how we feel and we always side with the person who feels hot because the other people can always put on more clothes.

  3. Politics, religion, social issues? No, I'm pretty entrenched in my views.  But back in 2006 I was complaining about the gas prices to my sister and she ended up convincing me that high gas prices were a good thing for the environment.  High prices lead to better fuel efficiency (we have an electric car now) and less reliance on fossil fuels.

  4. Here's the thing, I have type 2 diabetes, my DD is vegan and GF, there is NO WAY I would ever expect someone to accommodate our food issues. Either we eat what is served or we buy/bring our own food. Special diets should not be accommodated outside of the normal range.  As for having to clean up after a guest... yeah, I have a sibling who does that "make a mess, leave the mess" too.  As long as she's only staying for a couple days I tend to suck it up.  If it were longer I think I'd have to have it out with her.

  5. If either of my parents had their homes set up for us to visit (my mom has pet's among other issues, my dad's place is small) we'd visit a lot more often.

Our long term plan is to buy property and build us a small house, about 600-700 sq. feet with 2 bedrooms 1.5 baths.  Then we'll build a guest house with 2 bunk/ bedrooms, small living space/loft and a bathroom for when the kids visit.  That way they have their own space and will feel more comfortable.

  6. If there was an increase it's nominal.  Nothing changed as far as I can tell but even though are premiums are cheap I still can't afford to pay the deductible($5000).  We're moving in February and other than the fact that we don't need all the space we have now it will save us enough money we can finally go to the Doctor/Dentist occasionally.

*Our insurance pays nothing (except the yearly check up) until the FULL deductible is reached.

  7. Also not a victim, mostly because my dad was very over protective of us.  After my parents divorced my mom's free-range style of child rearing led to all 3 of my younger siblings being victimized.  So, yeah I'm one of those parents that gets called overprotective and I have no qualms about it.

  8. I make salisbury steak with a beef broth gravy (using just a little cornstarch).  Taco salad or spaghetti on zucchini noodles.  Everything else I can think of require high starch... shepard's pie, cottage pie, tacos/burritos etc...

*You could do a no bean or low bean chili

  9. We have AT&T 1GB speed for $80 (includes tax) no cap.  If they ever do put a cap on us we'll be paying a ton more (2-3 days into new cycle and we were at 166GB).

*Comcast used to have a monopoly on the area (300mbps at about $85).  Then AT&T came in with full gig service same price, so now they have to compete with each other and also Google in the Metro area North of us.

  10. Going off my family and most every "other people's" family type functions I've been to: Teddy's nuts, divy up leftovers not grab what you can before anyone gets seconds.  Also GF should have made him a plate, in my family I'd have been reminded to about 10 times before I got to the end of the line.  If GF didn't feel comfortable or there was a perceived shortage Bill needs to suck it up and get McD's on the way home.

  11. I know that I almost completely ignore mine (I think DD is actively trying to kill hers) and they just keep growing.  We water when the soil is dry (soaking it all the way through but don't drown it.... otherwise you have to pour off excess which depletes soil of nutrients). I turn then every couple days so they don't grow lop-sided and that's it.  Re-pot when they start to look sickly (once a year, maybe).

  12. I'd turn the basement into a play area with all the toys.  Even if it's dry, try to keep toys and stuff off the floor, do indoor/outdoor rugs, make sure you have a dehumidifier.  I'd do a low bunk like others suggested, only do them l-shaped and at one end have a dresser as the support or fit it with in the support (google it and there's many different configurations that could work).  Also I'd give the boys the biggest bedroom after the baby moved out, even if it meant DH and I had to squeeze into a smaller space.  DC and even just DD has always gotten the biggest room because they have more stuff then DH and I do.  Think about shelving to get books and other "stuff" off the floor (floating shelves).  As for the dining area I'd do a banquet type table that requires less space.

*Like some other posters we don't even do dressers.  If it can be hung up it is everything else goes in a hamper.

  13. We're cooking for the 4 of us (tonight since both DH and DS work tomorrow) but we're only doing a turkey breast, stuffing, buttered corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, pasta salad, and rolls.  Actually sounds like a lot but since DH usually goes all out it's pretty toned down for us.  Oh, DH is making an apple pie.

*We're using a lot of low prep ingredients like frozen vegetables and boxed stuffing.
