  1. I spent some money on paint and painting supplies. This is one of the project that I had planned on tackling this year, so it is a planned expense. I bought two gallons of primer and a gallon of paint as well as rollers and paintbrushes and trays.  I am painting my living room and dining room. The primer should be plenty to do both rooms and maybe have some left over, but I will need more paint, rollers and brushes.

I am proud of myself for not spending much on clothes for myself. Since I have lost a little weight, I am getting back into a couple pairs of shorts and capris that  had been too snug. So, instead of buying more clothing , I am "shopping my closet" and making do with what I have.

  2. I don't disagree with you.  I just think it's sad.  Hypocrisy being believing one thing and doing another.  And yet, Christians are the only ones not allowed by society to fall short of their intended goal.

The intention?   To live a life worthy of the calling.

    The real life?  Only human.

Example:  I truly believe that if I follow everything in The Well Trained Mind I will have truly gifted my children with a superior education.

The truth?  I fall short - only 24 hours in the day and all those very plausible excuses of just being a plain old human.

And yet?  It's excusable to fall short in every area except Christianity.  Obviously molestation is a little more than "falling short," and I'm NOT talking about this specific instance, but in many areas folks call, "Hypocrite!" and yet it is simply being human.

I understand what you are saying.  Mostly, I think the issue is Christians wanting to concern themselves not just with their own efforts to live a life worthy of their calling and faith. Pretty much everyone would be fine with that, I believe.

However, for so many Christians, it goes way beyond living their faith for themselves.  When they try to legislate their beliefs onto others and think others should live by their beliefs, it creates the tension.  If someone thinks gay marriage is a sin, fine. Don't marry a person of the same sex.  Nobody would have an issue at all with that. That is living his or her beliefs.

Going on and on about the ungodliness of it all and how sinful it is and nobody should be allowed to do it-that is a whole different ball game. Then actively working to legislate against others doing it because it goes against a group's religious code creates more push back.

Actively campaigning against transgender persons and creating a fear that they are perverts and child abusers while having this skeleton in you very own closet?

This is not the first case of hypocrisy in Christianity and it is not the first case of it in humans in general.

We all know that people fall short of ideals.  We all understand that Christians fall short of always living the teachings.  That is understood.

I think if Christians want more understanding, they need to give it to others.  Don't try to make everyone else follow their own personal religious code. If all that was done is Christians going about living their faith the best they could, there would not be such an issue.

The story about tying heavy burdens to others that they themselves can't bear comes to mind.

  3. I've never watched the Duggars and am no fan (couldn't care less about them, honestly), but reading through these threads about them is like watching one of those nature documentaries where the vultures start hovering around a sick gazelle and then start picking apart its carcass before it's even dead.

Well, Jim Bob has been known to say things that imply he believes any publicity is good publicity.

When  people put their business online for the world to see on a "reality" show, there is the expectation that people will talk about it.

    "Reality" just got real.

  4. I did not watch the interview, but am reading about it here on the board.

How does this fit in their "buddy system", I wonder?  I recall watching one of their shows where Michelle was pregnant and was going to have a girl. One of the little boys was so cute because he wanted to be the big buddy to the new baby. So there must be some precedent of boys being a big buddy. I wonder if they could only be buddied up with another boy.

  5. I work from home as an internet assessor. The work is to help improve internet search results. I can agree the previous poster that search engines do not want users to get things they do not want.

Generally, they want to know that a user is looking for p3&n before giving those results. So Google is not out to get you and give results you don't want. Yes, it happens sometimes, but generally it doesn't work that way.

  6. I would not be surprised a bit to hear some sort of scandal come out about the Pearls. I know children have died from parents following their teachings and that is certainly bad enough.

However, I would not be surprised to see more come out.

There seemed to be an obsession with "gay" in their writings.  I recall reading where their dd did not get a marriage license because whenever same sex marriage became legal, they would be "yoked" with "sodomites".  This was several years ago. So, they only did a religious marriage, I guess. Not a legal one.

Also, Debi Pearl advises women to forgive a husband to molests the children. She should notify police and testify in court, but forgive him. Also, she should visit him in jail and take the children along to visit sometimes.   Then when he gets out, she should accept him back as her husband.  :ack2:

Something seems pretty rotten there also.

The Duggars used to link to Pearl teachings from their own website.

  7. I only opened this thread because I had no idea what an "octonaut" was.

Now I know it is a childrens' show of some sort.

My dd is 16 now, so I am out of the loop with the new kiddie shows.

However, there was a time I could tell you all there was to know about Barney, Dora, and Blue's Clues. And Caillou, of course.

She has moved on to Dr. Who, Sherlock, and Supernatural.

Her tasted have matured from Caillou to Sam and Dean Winchester.  :w00t:

  8. Have to tell ds that his childhood cat died last night, on the day he is finding out really good news.

Aw, sorry about the loss of the cat.  :crying:

    Hugs to everyone else too.

I would whine and vent too, but I have too many things and I can't just choose one. :glare:
