  1. I have one more year of homeschooling . My plans are as follows

    1. Continue with my part time work at home job and try to put in more hours. Now, this is one of those things where you could be let go at anytime. I have been hanging on for four years, but truthfully, anything could happen.

    2. After dd graduates, take a one year vocational course in something like Medical Assisting.

  2. I think it is great that you are thinking of ways to bless your husband. :001_smile:

Honestly, I am super non picky about laundry and so is my dh, so I am no real help there.

Not sure about what his diet is, but planning ahead and making sure you purchase the foods needed is important. Also, preparing them right after dinner and sticking them in the fridge should suffice.

Dates- we usually go out for dinner/drinks. Non food dates could be going together to local events or walking around seeing the sights in town. Maybe outdoor flea marked type places this time of year.

When my dd was younger, we always kept a strict 8:30 bedtime for her. When she became a preteen/teen she just had to go in her room but was not required to go to sleep that early. It gave dh and me a couple of hours to hang out together alone and watch TV.

  3. I don't question the value of a CC class. But at a homeschool convention? I mean, I'd love to learn more about DIY appliance repair or obedience training for my dogs but wouldn't expect or want to find classes for them at a homeschool event.

Yeah, I do get that. I will say that it is held after all the other sessions end and the vendor hall closes on the last day of convention. So, it is sort of an "add on" .

I will admit that I don't mind some of the oddball type classes at convention. I enjoyed ones about  freezer cooking, saving money on groceries etc.  Some of the marriage ones were pretty good too.

But I agree that homeschooling itself should be the main focus.

  4. But everyone knows there are more New Englanders and Canadians in Florida than there are in New England and Canada. (LOL)

Probably true.  However, there are still many of us who are not Northeners or Canadians, darn it! LOL

I am a Southerner and proud of it.  :boxing_smiley:  to all who say otherwise.

It isn't our fault we have been invaded!  :P

  5. I was excited to see this in my convention program! I think it is a fantastic idea. It probably helps with funding the convention and it also is a convenience for a lot of people who were considering a CC class anyway.

I may sign up for it, but it is on Saturday afternoon, at 5 pm I think. By that time, I am exhausted and ready to head home.

  6. I wouldn't necessarily consider Florida "the South." Also, there are plenty of us from southern states that are not pro gun and would not carry a concealed weapon for any reason. I am originally from Alabama and spent a number of year living in Georgia.

Sorry, I beg to differ. As a Native Floridian, we are most definitely part of the South.  :001_smile:

  7. American School of Correspondence has been around since the 1800's , I believe.  It is a high school program used by many early homeschoolers including Joyce Swann. She wrote the book "No Regrets" It is about accelerated schooling. She had a Masters Degree by 16 and was completely homeschooled.

They do publish some of their own materials, but also use regular secular textbooks.

Trying to think about companies who have gone out of business. I will do a bit of research because I think I know of at least one. I will be back in a bit.

Never mind-I thought a heard a particular company had gone out of business, but apparently not. That's good.

  8. My daughter is using it this year. No, it is not a cop out program. However, it will not meet many member's definition of rigorous. I am not concerned about that. I am concerned with finding materials that work for my daughter and me. She is non mathy and disinterested in science. This gives as good overview of biology without being overwhelming. Any illustrations are one drawings and are non graphic. I purchased it with the accompanying teacher guide and workbook. I pick and choose activities from the workbook for her to complete. The teacher's guide has a information on scheduling activities.

My daughter says it's not that bad. :) She likes it fairly well. We both think it is a good choice for "get it done" science curriculum.

Also check out Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum. They have materials that teach concepts through stories.

Let me know if you have more questions.

  9. Thanks everyone ! I have read all the replies and have taken notes on all of them. It is interesting that some models are not roomier in the interior than a sedan. I have not been to look at any in person yet. Online research and online window shopping are as far as I have gotten.

Good to know about checking out buying new. I will do that when the time comes.

  10. If you own a smaller SUV, what kind is it and what do you like or hate about it?

I will be shopping for a vehicle sometime next year and am considering one of these. The kind I am considering are like the Ford Escape, Dodge Journey, Chevy Equinox etc.

We are a small family so I don't need room for several kids. In fact, it will often just be dh and me since dd is a teen and has a part time job and is gone several evenings a week.

The reason I am considering one is that I want more room. They make sedans so small nowadays and I want more leg room and cargo space.

A larger SUV would probably be too expensive.

Oh, and we will be buying pre-owned.

    Thanks! :seeya:
